Currently being treated for bartonella and wonder what anyone elses's experience has been with treatment.  My doctor started me off on mepron for babesia cause I have that too.  No response after two months so he changed me to bactrum and biaxin.  WOW  for six weeks I was showing all kinds of improvement then it stopped and I went back to where I was, so he changed me to Levaquin. It's been a month now and no response.  My questions is--Is this how it goes-just keep trying antibiotics til he finds some that work??

Also a friend of mine needs an LLMD in Washington State.  Anyone know of one?

How do you know that you are having no response? You can't base that on how you are feeling; many times people start feeling worse once they start medications because the bacteria are dying and releasing toxins. I have Lyme, babesia, and bartonella, too. My LLMD is treating the babesia first - I am in my third month of mepron, azithromycin, and artemisinin. We just added a sulfa drug to work on the bartonella while still treating babesia. If that were my doctor I'd be concerned about all of the medication changes. It doesn't sound like you really know what the criteria for change is.

If you look in the first post on this forum, there is a link for LLMD referrals. That may be helpful for your friend.

I hope you find the right course of medicine soon.

That's my concern.  I'm not sure my LLMD knows how to treat me.

When I was on the bactrum and biaxin there was no doubt I was improving.  A lot of my symptoms were about 90% better. Hot flashes and night sweats almost totally gone, fatigue 90% gone,  balance remarkably better, strength better--I was getting so much better.  Then it stopped. And I'm back to where I was before the Bactrum and Biaxin.

I'm on levaquin now and don't feel it's doing anything.  I think he should add something to it.  He doesn't.  That's my concern.

Hi dogshowlover,

What kind of dogs do you show? I love animals. My step sister has bull mastifs(sp?) that usually always come out first or second in shows. They are gorgeous.

I'm sorry you seem to be hitting a brick wall with your treatment. How long have you been on Levaquin? You should give it a few months before switching medications. Do you currently still have Bart symptoms?

Here is some helpful information for you and your friend to find a good LLMD:

I've been on Levaquin for a month. Will be on it till my next appointment Jan. 11th. I was on the Biaxin and Bactrum for 2 months. The first six weeks I was improving dramatically Better balance-I could stand and pull up my jeans without having to hold on to anything. hot flashes almost gone, nigth sweats almost gone, better breathing, very little fatigue, brain fog 80% better and then I just went back to where I was before I went on it. Very discouraging.

Hi dogshowlover,

Try these websites for the state of Washington:

http://drsusanmarra.com/ (Dr Susan Marra)

http://www.publichealthalert.org/Articles/scottforsgren/
amy%20derksen%20interview.html
(This site talks about Amy Derksen ND and Dr Dietrich
Klinghardt, they also have websites)

I do not have personal experience with any of these docs, so I cannot comment about them. I just have heard of them and thought you might want to check them out.

Best wishes to you and your friend. bablymers mom

Babylymers,

Are these doctors LLMD's or all ND's?

Dogshowlover,
Dr. Susan Marra is awsome. If you get the book Insights into lyme disease treatment she is one of the 13 doctors who
write all about the scene. Also she had lyme herself. 206 299 2676

I am in Seattle because of her and my situation is very complicated and misdiagnosed for 30 yrs.
Good luck...
