Anyone use this? I wash with the soap. I know there are pills, too. Some people swear by them. But have heard they can absorb medications as well as toxins. Just wondering if anyone can give me info or experiences. Thanx

Hi Lovelabs,

Our llmd and our naturopath have prescribed the charcoal to us at various times during our treatment. I don't know much about it, but I'll share what little I've learned. We have taken capsules and were told we could purchase any brand we found at a "health food" store. I agree that the charcoal can absorb the good stuff along with the toxins. If I remember correctly, we were to take it before going to bed, and long after our other meds. I think it is possible to take too much, which is not good, ----maybe can constipate, or cause discomfort? Check the dosage and "timing" with your doc. We did not notice much difference in our health when we use it but we are not on it continuously. I think some people really do notice a difference, and I have heard that even hospital emergency rooms have used it in certain cases, so it probably does help absorb stuff.

Best wishes to you, bablymers mom

I have never used this myself, but was interested it in. I have used it in animals who ingest bad things. its designed to absorb meds and substances so you definitely want to take it far away from meds.

how long, I woud say at least 2 hours before or after meds at least.

Thanks to all of you for the info. Going to check with naturopath and see what he says about it next month.

Thanks for posting this Lovelabs - I've been thinking about taking activated charcoal as well, to help my detoxing go 'a little further'. When I do start, I will be posting any issues or benefits that I notice.

Thanks Bablymers for your response! I don't know if I would have been able to get any info like you posted from my semi-local health food store, as they have asked me to keep them informed on what I've tried & if it worked or not. Evidently, they have quite a few people come in asking about help for LD & they have no understanding of just how to help anyone with this horrible disease.
It's been said:LD patients can be as ill as people w/ congest. heart failure & in as much pain as post-op patients.

You're welcome Traveler! I'm happy to be able to contribute something to this wonderful HW site because I always learn so much every time I read here. Don't you just love it!!

Have you noticed any benefit yet from the charcoal? I just met a very sick lymie yesterday---- a young woman with many sensitivities and problems, and she told me that the charcoal is one of the few things that actually makes a little positive difference for her. She had testing done that proved her body has trouble detoxing and that is part of the reason she remains so sick. The charcoal is one thing that helps a little. I must try harder to remember to take it when it is in my protocol.

Best wishes, bablymers mom

Thanks Bablymers Mom!!!
I haven't started using the activated charcoal yet - my plan is to move pretty slowly, adding only 1 or 2 things every month or two - depending on how my body reacts to it. I have been quite ill for many years now with this & have only been detoxing for 2 or 3 months now, but, like the gal you mentioned, I have discovered that my body had been in need detoxing for a very long time. So I'm not rushing anything!

At this point I have only done detox baths (foot & full baths), and am taking only a small handful of supplements. I added Co-Q10 & an Omega 3-6-9 complex just last week & am currently waiting to make sure that those aren't going to throw my body into something whacky - again.

I have been a member of this site for a couple of years & it has been my biggest help & motivator!!!! Just to know that I'm not really, truly crazy has a lot of benefits!

THanks again,
Peace ~ Trav
