Hi Guys: I just broke a blood vessel in my eye and this has happened three times in the last few years. No pain, just looks horrible for a few days. Where it has happened a few times, I was wondering if any of you have had this happen and were ever told it was from the Lyme Disease. Thanks    D

Lyme can weaken the blood vessel walls so that they rupture more easily. Vitamin C is supposed to help strengthen the blood vessel walls, but I don't know what dose would be needed for this (probably a lot more than the RDA of 60mg/day).

Thank you Razzle. I did a little research after posting and have taken a high dose of Vitamin C just now as I found like you said, that Vitamin C makes the vessels stronger. Thanks for answering.  D

I went through a period of blood vessels breaking in my eyes - once it was horribly painful, probably because it was a large bleed. I have had issues with my eyes ever since, so I'm assuming that is when my eyes were first infected (?) - but that's just a guess!!!

Traveler: Did your blood vessels stop breaking when you got treatment for Lyme? Thanks   D

Wow!  I just experienced my first blood vessel break and I am currently under treatment.  I am going to see my LLMD today and will check with him to see if this is related to Lyme.

Lablady: Would you be so kind as to post and let me know what he says about your eye and if the Lyme is to blame for the blood vessels breaking? Thank you

Junkyard: Blood shot eyes is not the same as broken blood vessesl. Your eyes are probably tired if you are not sleeping well. With a broken blood vessel the white of your eye just fills up with blood and they really look much worse than it feels.

Dowa,

He said he really hadn't heard of this before, but, yes it is possible.

Lablady: Thank you so much for asking. I saw an eye surgeon the first time it happened and she said it was something she could not diagnose. So, guess we might blame the lyme as it does so many strange things to the body. Take care and again, thanks for asking. I am thinking it does not happen often in LD if he had not seen it before and not too many here had replied to  my post. My eye  is looking better today...   D

Hi Dowa,
I was clueless about having Lyme at the time! They did heal, although it seemed like it took them a long time. An Uncle that I was very close to was very ill with cancer & I was able to go visit them, so I was pretty stressed out & assumed that was what had caused it.
