Woke up with some energy for the first time in many, many months. I haven't even been on doxy for a week yet....could it possibly be working this fast?

This is great, but when will I herx? Or will I? Isn't it good to have a herx to let you know that the little buggers are dying?

Hi Joann,

That is awesome! I'm so glad you are feeling better. Just so you know, not everyone herxes. Some people's liver can deal with all of the die off.

Thanks CajunGrl! Wouldn't that be great! I know it's early yet though....I think this is just day 5 so I'd better just wait and see what happens....

My husband can't believe how energetic I am today!

I still have lots of symptoms (vertigo, double vision, pain) but they seem less severe and just having a little energy makes so much difference! I guess I had forgotten what it felt like to get up and be able to actually accomplish a few simple tasks without psyching myself up first!

OK....today I think I'm having my first herx. I have pain, but my neuro symptoms are out of control, especially vertigo and blurry vision. Extreme fatigue as well.

Well, this means something's happening! :)

I noticed for me, when I first start antibiotics, I feel extremely good for about a week, like I'm not sick at all but once the medicine starts getting in my system, I start herxing and feeling real bad. I wonder if the antibiotics are causing the bacteria to hide when I first get on antibiotics? I'm not sure but I really love those good days.

Nasalady,
Hope you're feeling better. I know I don't belong on this forum (what's a herx?) but I wanted you to know I think you're
awesome. Don't know if you got my reply by e-mail as I am serioiusly illiterate...just hit reply and typed message, then
hit send? I agree with the stuff about lyme and the things it mimics. I have a guy I know who was just diagnosed with
it and he is now out of work, I guess it hit him pretty bad. As he hauls soda for a company nearby it's a lot of lifting and he
just couldn't do it anymore.

Passing on the info from you to my son...he said thanks. Keep in touch.

nasa, herx or no herx, feeling good is always a great news. what dose of doxy were you taking? and did you have any co-infections? because I read that doxy is inadequate for most co-infections.

Thanks Nana! Sorry for the delay in my email....it wasn't your fault, it was mine. Please look in your mailbox, I finally replied! :)

You belong here just as much as anybody. You don't have to have Lyme disease to be here....it's perfectly OK to visit forums just for info!

A "herx" is a Jarisch- Herxheimer reaction. It was first observed in the treatment of syphilis but they've since seen it happen in other diseases as well, including Lyme of course. After antibiotics are given to kill the infection, the deaths of the invading bacteria release toxins into your system, temporarily making you feel worse! But it's just temporary and it shows that the nasty little critters are dying so it's a GOOD thing!

Tell your son he's more than welcome; I hope that he finds some relief! Please post (or email) updates when you have any!

Take care Nana! I hope that you're doing well right now!
((((hugs))))

Hi pepphell,

Yes, I'm really herxing right now for sure, my symptoms are mostly neuro so far. So I'm not feeling good anymore!

I do have some increase in pain that makes me think that the weird bout of abdominal pain I had recently that put me in the hospital might have just been Lyme doing something! Is that possible?

I'm on 200 mg of doxy twice a day, so 400 mg total per day. I don't know yet about co-infections; they're testing me for them (at Igenex). So I'll find out at my next appt with my LLMD in March.

How are you doing?

Take care,
JoAnn

Hey nasalady,
This is one of the many cruel things about Lyme, it gives you an occasional "good day" followed by some rough days. You may notice your symptoms flare for periods of time. For me I have a flare once a month that lasts anywhere from two days to a week.

Abdominal pain, rib pain, nausea, GI issues were some of my earliest, and most difficult symptoms. Yes Lyme, and other co infections such as Bartonella, Ehrilichiosis will cause these symptoms.

Well I hope you have another "good" day soon!!

Best wishes

Hi again JoAnn,

I forgot to ask in my earlier post if you were taking probiotics? This will replace the good bacteria in your body that the antibiotic kills off. It also helps gut issues.

Hi CajunGrl,

I've ordered some probiotics recommended by my LLMD but they haven't arrived yet (!!), so I'm eating YoPlus.

This morning I felt terrible....even had 15 min of dry heaves. I don't know if the nausea was caused by the doxy, since I've been on it for more than a week with no noticeable side effects apart from the herx. The nausea did hit me about 1/2 hour after I took the morning dose though.

It could be the doxycycline. Here is a great site about the do's and dont's of doxycycline.

Thanks SO much for that website CajunGrl! I looked at it briefly last night just before bed (right after I took my nighttime doxy dose) and saw that you are NEVER supposed to lie down after taking doxy because it can damage your esophagus. You have to remain in an upright position for at least an hour to be sure to avoid this problem.

Great timing! I was just about to lie down...needless to say I stayed up for a while.

I'm so glad you read that before you went to bed. I need to post this information somewhere so that everyone on doxy knows. I forget to tell members sometimes.
