Hi all,

I have noticed that my left hand looks arthritic.  I wonder if I may have osteoarthritis of the hand(s).  I don't have any pain but my hands look really funny, no, not that kind of funny.  Fingers are slightly separated and left hand is bumpy at the joints.

Read that a supplement called Glucosamine may help.  Wondering if anyone knows about this condition or this supplement.  I don't want it to get worse as I get older and lose more bone due to aging, hey, I'm not that old!

Oh, it's wonderful to get better from lyme and then go straight into peri-menopause (that's over thank goodness!) and into full menopause.    I guess that how life works, if it's not one thing it's another, right?  LOLOL!

Anyone have any ideas?  I do need to find a doctor that specializes in this perhaps..  I simply don't trust most doctors, especially when I have to tell them my history with chronic lyme, they don't get it.

Denise

MSM and Glucosamine are supposed to help the joints, as is Vitamin C. Some also think Condroitin is necessary for the joints, but it is controversial. I've read that if you don't notice some kind of improvement with Glucosamine within the first 6-8 weeks of taking it, then it probably won't do much to help...I wonder if digestive enzymes taken with it (such as Bromelain) would help it absorb and help reduce the arthritic inflammation...

Osteoarthritis can have a genetic component also - I remember seeing my Grandmother's hands having those bumps at the joints and some of the ends of her fingers were crooked...and I see some similar changes to my own hands...

Thanks so much Razzle!

Yes, it could be a genetic factor, my sister's fingers are also crooked and I forget to look at my Mom's hands.  I just browsed through I-Herb.com and darn, there are so many different brands of Glucosamine (has MSM included), bromelain, Vit. C., and the list goes on.   There is NOW, Nature's Way, and so many others.  I prefer (if I can get it) the liquid supplements.   Yes, I hate swallowing pills but will if I need to.  I also hear fish oil is good too which I have at home already.

Any recommendations on the brands?  I think Jarrow makes some of these supplements as well...

Thanks,
Denise
