I just came to visit my daughter and her family. I no sooner walked in, went over to my 2 year old granddaughter to say hi and spied a deer tick on the back of her neck! It was attached, I pulled it off. Her mom said it could not have been on more than one hour, they had just come in from playing outside. The tick was not engorged.

I know we can send it to Clongen for testing and that's what I am recommending to my daughter. Has anyone gone this route and is this what you would do?

Thanks!

P.S. Do you ever feel like we're in some sort of horror movie where you walk out your door and these creatures attack? She was just in her yard, for goodness sakes!

I would still want my kiddo treated for 4-6 weeks of antibiotics regardless whatthe tick test is.

She lives in western PA. Ticks are less active in cold temps, but the possibility of a bite is still possible. My dog had one in the dead of winter. Temps have been anywhere from the 30-60's every day.

Just to update and pass on possibly useful info. My daughter spoke with a LLMD in western PA. He does not treat under 18 years of age and suggested she call Dr. J in Connecticut. She spoke with a woman in his office who recommended she treat her baby for 30 days even though my daughter doesn't think the tick could have been on any longer than 1/2 hour. So, she probably will go that route but is concerned, of course, about the side effects of abx for 30 days on a two year old.

Re: the tick testing. Dr. J's office did not think the tick test should influence treatment since it may not pick up everything.
