I am going to see a rheumatolgist tomorrow about auto immune issues and was wanting to ask him if he could prescribe me Gabepentin. Betterhealth or anyone....how has it helped you? If you have pain, does it help your pain? Taking it for pain(fibromyalgia), is the reason I want to try it.

I know several people that take it for FM symptoms and they say it has been a blessing for them.

I personally never tried it. Never hurts to ask and see how it does for you!

I have read that they just discovered that Gabepentin works for FM. My first LLMD prescribed it to me before I actually starting hurting bad and I never took it. I've read it has less symptoms than Lyrica. I see there is a new one called Savella. Hmmmm, I wonder which one is better? I don't want to deal with all of those scary side affects.

I am trying to just function. I will deal with the Lyme later with a natural protocol.

CajunGrl,

Gabapentin did help me with my numbness for about three months and then it gradually became less and less effective. I was taking 5 pills per day and my doctors had recommended increasing the dose to as many as 10 per day. I decided instead to wean myself off entirely because I feared that my lyme symptoms were getting worse and I really needed to evaluate the situation without the Gabapentin masking my symptoms.

I did notice that after stopping the gabapentin that my anxiety level seemed much higher. Gabapentin definitely suppresses anxiety and makes you less agitated. I didn't really recognize this benefit until I stopped taking it.

I was first prescribed Lyrica and took it for two days and didn't see any benefit so I discontinued it. I probably should have given it at least a week to see if it offered any benefit. I know that Lyrica is a newer generation drug and also costs more then Gabapentin.

I think that there is no harm in giving it a try. If it doesn't work out, you can always wean yourself off.

Be careful when you first start out, they did make me feel high for a few days. I gradually increased the dose as my body adjusted.

Let us know what you decide.

betterhealth,

Thanks for posting. I saw my rheumy yesterday and was diagnosed with Fibro. He put me on Savella. I've researched it and it doesn't have those scary side effects that Lyrica has. If it doesn't work, I can always try Gabepentin.
