I was curious if anyone here has tried oil pulling? I heArd about it from a friend and then coincidentally while reseArching natural treatments came across it again.... The claims are nothing short of Amazing and at the least it whitens your teeth! I started this morning using the recommended sunflower oil..... I also found someone recommended using oil of oregano as it's a powerful natural antibiotic and that sounded like a great combo to me i wonder if anyone has tried this? :)

I started Oil Pulling about six months ago after reading about it and watching some videos on YouTube.

I use Organic Sesame Oil, 1 T, 15-20 minutes. When I first heard about it, it was the "white teeth" that motivated me, and I was doing it almost daily. According to the info I read, when I googled it, there are other benefits as well. It seems to be controversial, like about everything these days, not a surprise.

Anyway, I had a "gut sense" that almost daily was too often. Now I Oil Pull two to three times a week.

I do notice my teeth are becoming whiter.

Another thing that I've noticed is that from time to time I spit up those white, bad smelling "curds" which I didn't even know I had. Gross! I did a google search and they are called "tonsil stones" (of course, there is a fancier, scientific word).

I'll spare all the "google" details...but I would not be surprised if the tonsil stones are related to Lyme. And this is even more Gross!!–but I've heard these can also be a way that parasites are released from the body. I'm not sure whether to go parasites released--yuck OR parasites released--great!!

I did test positive for parasites...so...that's my experience.

WOW!
I was reading about oil pulling & discovered that I have suffered from "tonsil stones" most of my life!!!! Soooo, now I will be trying oil pulling - as soon as I have the energy to get out to the store.
Thank you CMRB for posting about oil pulling!

I'm excited to see what kind of results I get, I did it Friday morning and wether coincidentally or not had the deepest sleep I've had in a long time on sat night. And today.... No kidding my arthritis pain has felt better than it has in months, I didn't even have to take a pain killer ( just my regular celebrex anti inflamatory) I think it may be a mix of detox baths, TONS of dry brushing, sauna, Foot baths and cutting out sugar completely for the last week. Maybe oil pulling will b the icing on the cake! I'm sure I will have many more bad days to come but this good day gives me a blip of hope to continue on what I'm doing

Also daisy I'm curious why you felt doing it everyday was too much? From what I've read the more the better but would like to hear your opinion!

CMRB, WOW great to read about the wonderful day you had–always remember that day on this journey and know there are more of those kind of days ahead!!

Regarding the question you ask...I believe in that gut sense and intuition. I pay more attention to it these days than in times past. I was having those "gut thoughts" that Oil Pulling everyday was too much. It was shortly after that I noticed my teeth were "sensitive" while I did it. So I cut back the frequency and haven't had the "sensitive" teeth or that gut sense, since. SMILE

I encourage anyone who is considering Oil Pulling to be sure and google it. What you learn is worth your time–from what to expect, the total affect on the body (not only the teeth), dangers (ie: bacteria--you do not want to swallow that oil!), etc. and you can watch YouTube videos of actual people doing it, but not me---nope! LOL

Im using unrefined (dont use refined) organic coconut oil. I have not done it last 30 days due yo not feeling well but when I do it I tnink it is helpful in small way. I use about 1 teaspoon and swish for 15 mins. Im still not certain of the claims but mouth feels cleaner and gums less inflamed. Let us know how it goes. Remember to spit it out when done swishing.

I love oil pulling! It's been a great tool. If you can, get a tongue scraper, too! There are some good yet inexpensive ones on Amazon.

I think it helps.

It's hard to tell.

I'm doing so many things for detox.

It does definitely help with painful and sensitive teeth.

Thanks Margaret - seems like this is firmly in the little risk/possible major reward category.

Can you just spit the oil into the sink? Do you gargle with salt water after?

It is recommended to spit into the trash so not to get the germs into the septic system. Haven't gargled with salt water.

Thanks for bringing our attention to this!

I am going to try oil pulling with coconut oil based upon this:

http://www.webmd.com/oral-health/features/oil-pulling

My teeth got beyond yucky in just 8 wks. on antibiotics - they looked like I smoked two packs
of cigarettes and drank a pot of coffee every day - yuck!

I was in the dentist's chair getting an early cleaning on Friday (my 6-month cleaning wasn't due
until December). It took 1.25 hours - the longest ever!

I'm hoping oil pulling will help...
7/14/14 removed nymph deer tick and started 200mg doxy for 3 wks per PCP the next day
9/18/14 met LLMD and was clinically dx'd with Lyme due to Bells Palsy - 3000mg amox
10/23/14 Igenex/CDC positive for Lyme - switched back to 200mg doxy
Symptoms mostly neurological (numbness/tingling/weakness)

I use organic olive oil. I swish for about 20 minutes, or until the oil gets a creamy looking texture. Then I spit into the sink (I don't understand why spitting into the sink would be harmful)? and rinse with salt water.

Don't swallow the oil or gargle with it. You can just swish it around in your mouth a bit. I make sure it gets around my teeth, since I've had extremely painful teeth.

I don't spit it into the sink because it will coat the pipes and will turn solid again in the drain trap - especially now as we head into winter. I just spit it into the trash can.

I haven't tried oil pulling yet myself, but my mom has. She does not have Lyme, but she used to have a lot of sinus problems and allergies. After doing the oil pulling for about 3 weeks, she developed what seemed like a bad head cold and had lots of mucous. Since recovering from that (which I now think was some sort of herx), she is completely free from all of her sinus issues. She used to take sinus pills that she got from her acupuncturist and no longer needs to take them. She also used to have an allergic reaction (runny nose, eyes, etc.) to my dog and would take an allergy pill when she knew she would be around my dog. She can now be around my dog and not have any type of reaction. She swears by the oil pulling and does it faithfully everyday for 15 minutes with organic coconut oil.
Unusual rash August 1992, began feeling unwell.
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome diagnosis in November 1992 after having "flu" and never recovering.
Anaplasmosis positive May 2014.
Lyme diagnosis July 2014 based on follow-up IGenex Western Blot, CD57 of 8, symptoms.
Started Cowden Protocol July 2014.
Started with LLMD September 2014.

Focus on today, and let God plan your tomorrows.

Do you have to do it first thing in the morning or can you do it anytime?

Hi Utahgal,

It's recommended to pull first thing in the morning, when the germ load is at its highest in the mouth. When you're starting out, it's also smart to pull on an empty stomach. Sometimes people get nauseated.
