This morning I woke up with my heart racing/pounding....it was difficult to breathe too. But it only lasted a little while then it went away.

This afternoon I'm nauseated.

On WebMD it says these can be side effects of Rocephin. Should I be worried about the heart thing?

Hi JoAnn,

I would definitely let your doctor know about this. I had initially experienced hives when dosing with Rocephin but I eventually stopped getting them after my body had adjusted to the medication. I also occasionally got severe cramps in my side just below my arm pit, very strange and uncomfortable. I started to notice improvement in my symptoms in the third week.   Do you have a picc line?    Are you doing the 2 gram dose?

Hi Betterhealth,

Yes, I'm on 2 gm/day. I did fax my doctor (that's how they like to communicate) and am waiting for a reply. I've had a lot of pain during the IV drip too. I know the needle is in the port correctly, and that it's not going into my tissues, but I feel a LOT of pain during the procedure. Weird!

With my picc line, I could control the speed at which I administered the dose. I did notice some chest discomfort if I went to quickly. I injected the 2 gram dose over a 5-7 minute period. My medication was refridgerated however, I was instructed to let it warm to room temperature before dosing. So it sounds like you have a port and use a drip. Do you administer the Rocephin at room temperature? Can you control the speed of the drip?

I have a drip bag...it takes about 20-30 minutes to get the whole dose in there. I don't let it warm up first....maybe that would help?

PS My doctor left a voicemail saying that the tachycardia IS due to the Rocephin and that he wants me to have an ultrasound of my gallbladder. But I had my gallbladder removed 15 years ago!! LOL!! He didn't say to stop the Rocephin though.
