Hi all,

After I became "chronic" with lyme I lost my job and had to stay home.  I was bedridden most of the time but I tried to make the most of it..

Anyway, I used to watch Little House (and still do), yeah, I admit I am 53 years old so I guess I started watching it in my 40's.   Even today I may put in a tape or DVR the show..    I also used to watch Knots Landing when it was on (I never saw it before as I was too busy working) and would tape that show too..  I thought that was another good show.

Am I the only one who likes these shows?   Silly me!!

Hi Denise, we watched Little House when we were kids, all crowded around the tv, waiting for it to come on and I was addicted to Knots Landing when it was on.

But I have a question for you if you don't mind = to what do you accredit your being symptom free for 4 years. My current LLMD is treating me with antibiotics but also a number of supplements as well. I am having a hard time, symptoms for over 5 years now. Currently battling anxiety/depression, blurry vision, headaches, etc. Would really appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Hi springsjean,

Yes, I was totally addicted to Knots Landing!  I guess the reason I still DVR Little House is because each episode has a moral to it which in today's world I feel people forget..

Short answer to being symptom free:  Preventive Medicine (detoxing, supplements, exercising, healthy diet, constant de-stressing).

The story:  I had followed Dr. Jernigan's protocol (perhaps a year or so after I tried Doxy) only because at that time the LLMD I was seeing refused to prescribe more Doxy (or any antibiotics) for me for fear that it would do damage to my organs so I felt really helpless and didn't know what to do.

I had joined another lyme forum and members were talking about Dr. Jernigan and that he came out with a book (this was his first book, not the book that's available now).  Then another member went to his clinic in Kansas after being sick for over 30 years and she got better (she never took any antibiotics) so I decided to buy his book since I knew he had a "healing at home" protocol and I followed that.  I also followed the progress of other people who were also doing his protocol and I was so excited that I wasn't alone and was getting better!

I also learned about detoxing and to this day I detox (because I believe we live in a toxic world) and to keep my immune system strong.

So I really give Dr. J's protocol all the credit (and his book).   I added some of my own supplements after I researched them such as Green Vibrance as well as others (living clay, CoQ10, Total B, CALM (calcium/magnesium) and others as well as using an infrared sauna).  Diet also plays an important role.  I avoid all carbs still because I am dieting (I get good carbs from veggies).   Then the stress factor, I de-stress as much as I can through exercise, knitting, crocheting, gardening, swimming and doing things I love.

I will quote Dr. J. "the body is not stupid and can heal itself and sometimes the body needs help" (hence his botanicals and the detoxing).

Hope that helps,
Denise

Hi again springsjean,

I'm sorry you are feeling depressed, I had my days where I felt the world was dark and bleak, I am not always positive, especially when I was suffering from lyme.  I will never, ever forget those dark days so my heart goes out to you.

I believe that sometimes we need to become our own advocate and look at the big picture:  if your current protocol is not working for you after a substantial amount of time, I believe it's time to look into other protocols.  Personally, I do not believe that antibiotics are the answer at least it wasn't for me.   Most of the people that I know that became well used alternative medicine.

What do you have to lose by buying some alternative medicine books and learning?  There are some excellent books out there "Healing Lyme" by Stephen Buhner,  "Beating Lyme Disease" by Dr. David Jernigan, and others...

Are you detoxing?   Are you in a stressful situation?  What kind of diet do you follow?   Financial problems?

I believe everything plays a role in this disease.  I asked my now ex-husband to leave because he caused me lots of stress..   I felt so much peace when he finally did leave even though I was getting any more money from him.    But the peace outweighed everything else.

Today I am feeling stress from this economy, I will not lie.. So now I am planning my next move which is to sell my house and move to Vermont where the cost of living is much less and I will be surrounded by beautiful country with lakes and rivers..

Don't let this disease define you...  Question your current doctor (and if he/she gets defensive that should tell you much), read books and learn and be brave and try a different protocol...  I feel for you..

I like Little House, never saw Knott's Landing. Now that I finally have DISH Network, it seems they've taken all the good old shows off and just have the junky ones...bummer. TV shows seem to just be dropping in quality more and more... I do like the Numb3rs reruns, though (just got hooked this past year - during the show's last season)...but of course they've cancelled that one, too...

Hi all,

Patti, I won't watch Martha Stewart either!  Something about her is so cold and unfeeling..

Knots Landing was the only "soap" I got into when they showed it, I'm basically not a "soap opera" person (boring)..  But there was much reality in Knots and it grabbed me (could not get into Dallas)..   I liked the "early" Little House when Laura was a little girl compared to when Laura got married to Dean Butler (Almonzo) though the blind school episodes were great.

Ah, the Waltons, I only caught some of the Waltons and would crack up every time they said "Good Night" to each other.

I don't have a dish, I have cablevision so I get TCM which is my all time favorite now (yeah, I even subscribe to their e-mails so I get to see what's on the entire month).  I love the old movies and naturally Cary Grant, Gregory Peck (love To Kill a Mockingbird), Bette Davis, Gene Tierney, etc.

I don't know if I will switch to a dish.. I get the 3 in one package (cable, internet, and telephone).  But I plan on moving anyway so it doesn't matter anyway.

Razzle, I never saw Numb3rs so I have no idea what that's about.  Don't you hate it when they take off the good shows?   I refuse to watch junky shows as well as movies.   Even though I get HBO, Encore, and Stars I rarely watch any of the movies unless it's an old one.   I compare the old films to the new when blood, sex, etc. was not shown and left to one's imagination, today they show everything, what do they think, that we can't figure out what's going on without showing every detail?   rolleyes

I liked Knot's Landing and Dallas. If there were reruns on my cable, I'd watch.

You are not the only one that watches those shows. I LOVE Little House on the Prairie!! The middle girl, I can't think of her name with this brain fog, but she reminds me of myself when I was little. I had freckles just like that, lol.....and still do. I don't know why but I seem to remember the mean girl Nelly's name for some reason, LOL.

Denise, thanks so much. I just started with this LLMD in May. She has diagnosed me with bartonella, herpes and has me on many supplements and things like alpha lipoic acid, rhodiola (for stress), AG Immune, etc. I am still on antibiotics and antimalarial but she wants me to try and cut back in the next few months and start with cats claw. I was really feeling better but all of a sudden hit a brick wall again. Although discouraged, I just get so confused whether the drugs are working, it is a herx or the anxiety/depression are from the drugs themselves. I am trying to detox (lemon water, baths), exercise (can't do more than walk), and just can't figure out what the heck diet to eat. Thought I was doing great with eating fruit but now think that was bad cause too much sugar/arginine, read that high protein not always good for lyme, etc. I research daily and just get more and more confused. I will however look into Dr. J's protocol. thanks so much again.

Denise - did a little researching on your prior posts.  (Hope you don't mind) can you tell me what type of foot baths you do (did)?  this seems to be a great way for me to do additional detoxing.  I am looking into getting Dr. J's book but with my first one off to college in a month, I am trying to save $ whereever I can.  Thanks again.

Hi all,

springsjean, you are welcome.   I think when people start feeling bad again it's because it's possible your body is full of toxins.  How often are you doing the detox baths?  Are you dry skin brushing everyday?  Our skin is our largest living organ and to open those pores by brushing them is really healthy and doesn't take that long.

Diet..  That's a toughie!  Maybe we should start a Lymie Diet thread.  I can not afford organic and with the economy being what it is, maybe we can share our favorite recipes.

Anyway, I thought sugar from fruit was okay since it's a natural sugar compared to sugar from candy.   I've been on a high protein diet (low carb) but I'm not sick (knock on wood) so it's working great for me.   Sounds like your doctor is doing the right thing by cutting back on the antibiotics..  Can you afford to buy Dr. J's book?   Reading that may help you understand what's going on inside your body.

Getting back to Little House:

I think the eldest girl's name was Mary, the middle one is Laura (Melissa Gilbert) with the freckles and the younger one Carrie..

How could we forget Nellie?  She was such a trouble maker!  Her mom was also a piece of work, LOL!   Mrs. Harriet Olsen?  I always felt bad for her husband Nells.   I'm trying to decide what episode I like the best but there were too many good ones..

Netflicks?  I don't get that and I already pay enough for cable!

Knots Landing:  I think I got hooked when Val and Gary moved into the Cul-de-Sac and then Donna Mills (Abby) went after Gary...  Everyone always said "poor Valene"..  That show just got better and better..   And then when Nicolette Sheridan joined the show (from Desperate Housewives) aka Paige, I couldn't wait to see the next episode.   But they don't televise that show anymore...

Oh, do I go on and on or what?  LOL!

Hey, if anyone has e-mailed me, my e-mails are not working right now so please don't think I'm ignoring anyone okay?   I may have a virus (computer) and need to do a system restore (done that a zillion times!)

Revision:  Springsjean, yeah, I still do those foot baths for more reasons than one (I have horrible looking feet and these baths soften my calluses).  Anyway, I have this inflatable foot thingy that I bought from Avon (you can use a large pan, anything that your feet will fit into) and I take hot water (not warm), take a huge measuring cup to fill the foot thing, add Cayenne Pepper and Dry Mustard Powder (I don't measure anymore, I just throw it all in).

The measurements are in the sticky on top "New to Lyme?  Start Here!" and before I put my feet in I dry skin brush the bottoms of my feet and soak up to 30 minutes.   I like to do this when I know I'm going to sit at the computer for a while or sit on my couch while knitting.   My cats take one whiff of this and run!

Hey Denise,

I loved LHOTP and Knott's too. Laura was my favorite because I looked like her as a kid. She was way more courageous than me and that's why I liked her. And I really got hooked to Knott's when Paige came on board. I haven't seen these in years though. I'm really hooked on HGTV, TLC, and Discovery now. I was just about to do a total remodel of my house when my Lyme symptoms completely hammered me. No pun intended. So since I can't fix up my house, I at least get a little fun by watching others.

I finally got Dr. Jernigen's book and am injoying it. Do you remember about how much it cost monthly to do the home treatment you did?

Thanks, Lisa

Hi Lisa,

I think Mary was my favorite as she was kind of shy like me (believe it or not!) and also loved to read books (when I was younger I couldn't read enough books!)..   Yeah, when Paige joined Knots that show became even better!   I was surprised that Paige fell in love with Sumner (Devane).

It cost me $100.00 a month for the Borrelogen and the CNS/PNS Neuro-Antitox back then plus the shipping.   I think the prices are the same except for the Microbojen (but I didn't take that until 3 months after I started).  It used to be $48.00 for a bottle.

Hope that helps,
Denise
