Just wondering if there is any known connection between Lyme and Cysts. My wife and I both have Lyme. I have 2 Ganglion Cysts on my back in the center, my wife has one on her wrist and just found out that she has a baseball size cyst on her ovary. Is this just a coincendence?

Interesting question....I also had a ganglion cyst on my wrist and then two sebaceous cysts on my back...very strange indeed.

Looks like a pattern to me! I am thinking about having mine removed and sent out for evaluation. Gonna make a call to Igenex and see what they say about testing. I will update.

I have cysts, one on each ankle. The doctor I saw told me that they'd come back if I had them aspirated.

Huh, I evidently had a ganglion cyst on the inside of my wrist back in the early '90's. The doc I was seeing at the time chose to drain it, as it was getting quite large & if I bumped something with that area of my wrist, it would drop me to the floor because of the pain it would cause.

The good news is that once it was drained, I have only had periods where that area has gotten pretty sore, but it has not protruded from my wrist again.

I'm just wondering if these cyst could be a hot spot for the bacteria?? I know this is different than what they mean by cystic form, but what if removing them would eliminate a large group of hiding bacteria??

I have a 4 cm cyst in the inner side of my leg/knee.

It has stumped four doctors, who are confused about what it is, despite xray and MRI.

The knee doctor says I have to have general anesthesia to remove it.

I NEVER had this issue before late stage Lyme.

I just wanted to post and add myself to the list of people with a cyst and Lyme.

This is quite painful and appears to be pressing on a nerve.

I did German Lyme doctor recommended Azithromycin and Tinidazole this winter because the tick that bit me was near Kaiserslautern Germany.

I went back to the US in early fall and did a month of Doxycycline and Tinidazole and two earlier regimens of Doxycycline alone, one 25 days initially and one 14 days after it came back in August.

Nerve pain and fatigue are gone but now I have this knee problem.

It happened after I had just re-introduced light jogging.

The doctor can find no mechanical reason for the cyst, no sign of arthritis, no problem with the knee.

The doctors are confused about why it is there so perhaps I will know better when they get it out and analyze it.

I had a baseball sized cyst on my ovary that was removed May 2014. They had to remove my left ovary anf tube because it was so twisted up - my LLMD believes it is related.

I am sorry to hear you went through that. This cyst on my knee is causing significant pain but that sounds excruciating to be of that size.

I had a lady on another forum say this can relate to parasites somehow and I am going to have to look into that and how that might apply with Lyme.

Bartonella can cause subcutaneous nodules. I have a couple. One got inflamed and painful for a while. I told my LLMD about them. Mine are related to Bart. Bartonella can cause calcification as well.

Welcome to the forum Pammy and KAR! Be sure to check out the "New to Lyme" thread at the top of the forum for lots of great info on co-infections, symptoms lists and detoxing.

Do you both have LLMD's helping you out?

Agent9er, that sounds very painful. Sorry you had to go through that!

I never thought about it, but I had one drained from my back. It never came back, unlike the rashes that used to come and go, come and go...

Thank you, I do not have an LLMD right now.

This surgery is based on what a German orthopedist said is needed.

I went to one LLMD in the U.S. when I was temporarily there for work for two weeks.

I took a month of Doxy and Tinidazole after that.

Then, because the tick bite (04/09/2014) was in the area of Kaiserslautern, Germany, I went to a German Lyme doctor who prescribed Azithromycin and Tinidazole, for 3 months, ending in mid-February, based on how the German strain of Borrelia behaves.

I stopped the antibiotics two weeks early and tried light exercise again and got this cyst at the end of March.

I want to try the Buhner protocol on my own but now need to wait until after the knee surgery.

I thought about going to the German LLMD to ask if there is any alternative to the surgery but he was very difficult to talk to.

This cyst is painful and I decided to have it removed.

I need to try another Lyme doctor here.

I am missing a lot of work to deal with this and really need to find a job back in the US so I do not have to pay cash upfront for health care.

I cannot afford much more of this.

Also, I am by myself over here and if I get sicker, I am not going to be able to keep working here.

Thank you and I am grateful to know I am not alone in this.

KAR, I'm sorry you're going through all that. We have some European members here. If you need help finding a new LLMD, please feel free to do a post "Looking for LLMD Near Germany" or Your Area (if you're elsewhere). Maybe you can get in touch with some European members to discuss your experiences. We have a lot of very knowledgeable people here who can help you out. You're definitely not alone.

In the U.S., we treat until the symptoms disappear and then for a few months longer. There are a number of herbal protocols, in addition to Buhner. I think Buhner is so popular because it is generally more affordable than other herbal protocols.

Welcome! Feel free to ask lots of questions. We're here to help you. I'm sorry your cyst is so painful!

Thank you so much. I will do a separate post.

My middle school teacher's nephew saw one LLMD over here, having traveled from the US but I can never get through to a live person due to their having very limited "speaking hours."

I had an appointment at the famous center over here but I cancelled it because I cannot afford both to pay for this surgery and to do that.

They wanted $4000 just to do testing and initial appointments.

As a civilian, I generally have to pay cash for German private health care over here.

I am trying to get a different job and return to the U.S. in part for this reason.

Also the job I have is not very good for a sick person to be in.

I appreciate the support and I will post separately on the LLMD topic.

Thank you.

In an essay I found entitled "When to Suspect Lyme", the author states:

"In many of my patients, cysts are found not uncommonly in various locations: thyroid, breast, liver, bone, ovary, skin, pineal gland, and kidney. Some forms of Polycystic Kidney and Fibrocystic Breast Disease may be LD manifestations"

I think I've posted a link to this essay in another thread, in reply to a different question, but will try to post it again. I found the whole article really helpful quite early on when I was trying to find my diagnosis, and it has lots of interesting information in it.

Hope this helps :-)

Thank you for the welcome! I'm not new to Lyme just this forum lol

I had a LLMD but stopped treatment after getting worse on antibiotics. I tried buhner's Lyme and myco protocols and didn't see any difference. I had all my amalgam removed and am chelating slowly as I treat for parasites. I am going to purchase some essential oils for Lyme, biofilm and antibacterial in general tomorrow to try before going back to antibiotics. 😉

I do have a doctor that is forward thinking and willing to try protocols that I am comfortable with.

I think the cyst on my GB busted while taking antihelmitics as some blood surfaced around my naval. I'm going to ask for an ultrasound to check that out. The pain has abated.

My joints are one of my big issues. Can/do the Bart cysts occur in joints? I know that parasites can and will infiltrate the joints.

Bartonella was my initial diagnosis 7 years ago. Albendazole is the only thing that got rid of my bladder issues. I believe I have Protomyzxoa Rheumetica which is a parasite that ticks can transmit like babesia.

I had a cyst removed within a year of my Bart diagnosis and my daughter is dealing with a "tumor" in her breast that has to be removed. I'm pretty sure it's a cyst but whatever. She is 23 and doesn't want to hear what I have to say about Lyme. 😔 I will just be supportive no matter what!

Good luck to all!

Pammy,

I'm not sure about whether Bart cysts can get in the joints, but why not? Haha. I do know that Lyme and Co go after our weak spots, especially areas where we have had prior injuries.

There is some info here on Protomyxzoa Rheumatica if you do a search. It is an extremely interesting and difficult co-infection.

Let us know if you need help finding a new LLMD. Also, there are a number of proven herbal protocols. Sometimes, a roadblock such as an unknown co, parasites, mold or something else can block or slow healing. Maybe that is what happened. I think it is good to have a LLMD helping out with that because it is so complicated. PR has a reputation for being difficult to treat. Let us know if we can help.

I'm so sorry about your daughter. Does she have any Lyme or Co symptoms?

It would be great if you can post that link :) I have a family member that has a cyst on his kidney and I told him it might be from lyme, as he has many symptoms, but he won't hear it LOL

Hi simela. Yes, the link is:

cassia.org/essay.htm

It's quite a long essay, but very informative and well worth reading - I found it really helpful in pointing me towards a possible diagnosis of Lyme disease. I have developed breast cysts btw, so was interested to read that he feels cysts can be linked to lyme.

Hope you find it helpful :-)
