I started oral abx 3 days ago 3x a day.  Today I am having stomach pain and half an hour after I took the pill, I ended up going to the bathroom 2 x.  I am wondering if the abx got into my blood or ended up in the toilet?  Should I take another pill?  Anyone knows if this is normal?  Also I am having blurry vision and I am freezin, by body temperature is 34.9 C(95 F).

I always take my abx with food regardless of what the label says. I do not recommend taking another pill unless you are instructed to do so by your doctor. I have the blurry vision too, don't know if it's from the neuro lyme or the abx. Your temperature seems very low, are you sure that your themometer is giving you an accurate reading. You might try a hot bath or shower to warm your body. Don't forget to take a probiotic two hours after taking your abx, this will help protect your digestive tract.

I would call the doctor if you continue to have problems. What abx and dose are you taking?

Hope your body adjusts to the new meds quickly.

I did take it with food, I wonder if the food I ate caused this.
I had cereal and yogurt. I drank a cup of tea with lemon.
about my temp: Yes, it is always very low when I wake up. Then it goes up a little. I had to put a fleece robe and a fleece blanket+socks on this morning. I do not take a probiotic--my PCP did not say anything about that. I am taking Ampicillin--which never bothered me before. 3x a day, 500mg each. I called me dr, the moron at the front desk thinks she is an MD. I was too sleepy and too tired to argue with her, so I will call later, when I feel better. THe woman at the front desk was nice, I should not call her a moron, but the reason I said she is one, is because she gave me medical advice, which she is not qualified to do. She should have put me through a nurse answering machine, at least.

How are you tolerating Doxy? Is it oral? The first time I took it my stomach was hurting and also ended up in the toilet within half an hour.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Simela,

I am not taking doxy currently, but I did have severe stomach pain when I was, I struggled to finish the medication. I had to be very careful about what I ate when on doxy. I haven't had any issues with any of the other abx's I have been on. I'm currently taking Ceftin and Mepron and don't have any stomach issues. I'm still feeling lousy most of the time though.

Good luck with your treatment. I hope you feel better soon.

I am not taking doxy.  I am taking amoxacillin 500 mg 3x a day.  I never had a problem w. amoxacillin before, although I only took it 2x a day and am pretty sure the doze was lower.  I could not take the doxy last time (same issues, severe unbearable stomach pain + diarrea), and since I am breastfeeding, dr gave me amoxacillin this time.

Since you are already eating before you take you abx, you should try drinking kefir - as better health said - two hours away from your abx. After a few days of my starting on Kefir, I noticed quite a bit of improvement. It's at least worth a try! It has helped me so much that I now make myown kefir at home!

How do you take it? I saw there are a few variations, one of them was a smootie. Do you take pills, powder, smootie, or what form? I had yogurt and some cereal w. milk and tea and lemon this morning--nothing else. Is this a bad combination? I have been going to the bathroom quite a lot today, so I am afraid that the abx are not doing what they are supposed to.

Oh, How can I make my own kefir at home?
Thanks!

Simela,

The best thing you can do is take probiotics. Antibiotics take the good bacteria out of your body and this leaves your stomach unbalanced, causing stomach problems. Probiotics puts the good bacteria back in your body and balances everything back out again. Trust me, I have been through this several times and probiotics always makes my stomach feel better. You have to take it continually though to see improvement. Doctor's don't normally tell their patients to take this. Most don't know.

The only other thing I can think of is a reaction to the ampicillian. Sometimes our bodies change and although we took medicines before, our bodies just cannot handle them any longer. Let your doctor know what is going on and never take an extra pill unless your doctor advises you to do so.

Hi Simela,
I started out drinking commercially made smoothies, and discovered I really liked the taste! To me it's a drinkable yogurt flavor & texture.

I don't believe that what you ate this am was a bad choice, although I am not on any special diet.

The abx might be doing what it is supposed to, it just may be that abx, at that strength gives you diarrhea. It's still very beneficial to start using kefir, as it has many different beneficial bacteria in it, not just acidophilus.

I in no way am connected to or gain anything from suggesting this site, I believe it has the most info & how you can get started by only paying postage, or sometimes for no money, as was the case for me.

You might consider working  up to the max dose in increments.  Could discuss it with your DR.  Mine has always thought it was ok to start with a smaller dose and then work up to the max dose over a week or 10 days.  It might also help make the first Herx less severe.

We all want to get better and into the abx routine, but perhaps it's not necessary to blast your system with the max dose all at once?

What probiotics do you take? Thank you!

Trav:
Thanks, I will check the link out. I have to take abx in 2.5 hours, and I just had some chicken, rice and corn. None of this should upset my stomach. I cook everything from scratch and I buy good food.

Rich:
My PCP is not a Lyme dr. I could not find one--they are all on vacation. I have to call back on Monday--one of them, supposely v. good, is coming back then. He and his 2 sons have lyme.
Dr. B's protocol says that the first 72 hours is when the abx kill the most bacteria and after that is incremental. I want to kill it all, so I will try to stick with this dose. I started on the 10th this month and this is only my 4th day. I will call the dr tomorrow if I am not getting better. Maybe the abx killed a lot of bacteria and that is what caused this reaction. For now, I just want the abx to stay in my body, so I am going to try to do everything I can to help it and tough it out, when it comes to the pain.

Thanks!

I LOVE the site, thanks so much! I am interested in other things that he has there, too I will admit that's a lot of reading! LOL I can't wrap my mind around all of it right now. I woke up at 5 am and getting pretty tired. I will be reading it tomorrow, it sounds realy interesting. I would rather do my own, that way, I know what I put in my body. It sounds quite simple. I've read half of the traditional kafir page. Do you buy kafir from the website you gave me or do you buy it from a USA source? I think I will buy a goat, if neighbors won't object! Not sure I can have one, here!
