Hi All,
Has anyone ever heard of itching on the back of the head, or teeth clenching as a symptom?  I seem to remember reading in a post (this was quite awhile ago) that itching on the back of the head could be a symptom.  I just read a post on another forum about teeth clenching being a symptom.  Any info, or links would be appreciated.
Thanks, KO

Hi KO-LD,
I don't actually 'grind' my teeth, but I do have a lot of issues trying to stop my teeth clenching. I have also noticed for quite a few years now, that the back of my head will very suddenly start itching like mad!! Although I just marked that up to just being me because I have discovered that once my pain goes passed a certain level in my head & neck area that I will get this intense itching.
Blessed are we who can laugh at ourselves, for we will never cease to be amused!!!! :)
May we all find peace along the journey to find healing.

Hi Traveler,
Have you ever seen anything about these 2 things being symptoms?  I can't find the thread that mentioned the back of the head itching thing.  And the clenching the teeth thing that I read on another forum didn't have any link.

Hi KO-LD

I have not been diagnosed officially yet, but I have the itching on the back of my head and neck also. Ive had itching all over in the past but head and neck are the worst, also have a very itchy nose! Never had the clenching teeth symptom though, nor have I ever heard anyone else mention it before.

Good luck

Unfortunately, I'm not real sure of where I found teeth clenching mentioned, but I haven't seen anything mentioned about the back of the head itchies anywhere! I just thought it was 'one of those things' that my body decided to do!!

I just did a very short search to try to find something about teeth clenching & LD & there are a lot of references to LD & TMJ issues. Included in TMJ symptoms is teeth clenching though.

What I did find though, was a very interesting article by John D. Bleiweiss titled "When to Suspect Lyme Disease". It says in it's opening statement "
"This essay, written by John D. Bleiweiss, M.D. in April, 1994 is very long, but also very comprehensive. The reader suspecting Lyme symptoms should either identify with a number of sections of this article, or, in this absence, be fairly certain of excluding the possibility of Lyme. (Any Doctor investigating prudent treatment for Lyme Disease would do well by reading this essay.)"

Of course that caught my attention!! smilewinkgrin so I just had to read through it!! Here's the link for anyone who might e interested;

I have tested positive for bartonella and while I don't have the teeth clenching thing I have jaw tightness for 5 years now. Just recently ask dr. about it and she says she hears that symptoms alot from patients but doesn't know why. It comes on with anxiety or tiredness or stress. I have had different rashes on my scalp, neck, forehead, jawline, but not intense itching.
Lyme, erlichosis, bartonella, herpes, EBV. 4 years undiagnosed despite 10 drs.
Current meds: tetracycline, amanatadine, neurontin, xanax, valtrex
Prior meds: amoxicillin, probenecid, doxy. IV refused by insurance.
THERE ARE ROUGH DAYS, TOUGH DAYS BUT ALSO GOOD DAYS. MY BOYS GET ME THROUGH THE BAD AND I SO ENJOY THE GOOD DAYS WITH THEM!

A cheap, easy thing that helps me when I get into jaw clenching is to rub peppermint oil over the site. I get my peppermint from the grocery store!! it really does work!

I've recently been dx with Bart, and I do find that I clench my jaw when I sleep, because it aches when I wake up. Sometimes my jaw feels tense during the day too.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I will tell you that Lyme disease has ruined my skin. I have terrible eczema on my hands and fingers, front and back, as well as my toes and face...along with pretty severe seborrhea on my scalp, which is very itchy and often bleeds due to scratching. I recently read that eczema (and acne!) are symptoms of infection, which makes sense...so you may want to have a dermatologist check your scalp - there are prescription shampoos that can help with the dryness and itchiness.

The only time I experienced a real problem with teeth/jaw clenching was when I was on morphine (I had switched to it briefly after a change in insurance - because morphine was much cheaper than what I had been taking, they required me to try it...it was awful and I felt like a monster...the migraine that lasted for days and the jaw clenching were terrible!).
