Is anyone being treated by an osteopath?  If so, could you please share a little about how they have helped you.

My LLMD-in-training is an osteopath. The only difference between an MD and a DO is that the DO actually has more training on the skeletal/manipulation part of it. I actually prefer a D.O. but that's just me. Most of the time, the DO will give up the manipulation part when he starts practicing medicine.

I saw a chiropractor briefly (I don't believe he was also an osteopath, but I figured I'd still post a reply since there was only one other!). I was so desperate at the time I went to see him that I was willing to do anything. I had also been a very active member of another online forum, having to do with pain management...the majority of the other forum members were very anti-chiropractic treatment, as many of them had been injured or suffered worsening of symptoms from chiropractic treatment... As with all online communities, there was no way to know the "whole story" or all of the objective facts as to whether these claims were true, but it did spark some fear in me about continuing... And honestly I don't think the treatments I had did a bit of good anyway. It usually felt good at the time (stretching the body and the immediate manipulation) but I was often in pain shortly afterward... Had it been beneficial, I would've considered continuing treatments - the guy has a great reputation in two very popular resort towns here. I think if you're interested, you just have to try it out with someone reputable, be cautious, and see if it works for you...

I am a believer in chiropractic but I must qualify that statement. The normal chiropractor will do manual manipulation and sometimes my body feels too weak to have all that jerking around. The chiropractor I see does his manipulation with something called an "Activator" which sounds like a jackhammer but exerts pressure in a specific area and isn't as traumatic. Most of the time I leave the office thinking he hasn't done much but next day when I'm detoxing and areas he treated feel back in place, I realize it must've done something. You'd have to ask around to see if any of the chiropractors in your area do that because I think the majority do traditional manipulation....and some are better than others at it!

I was sent to an OD and spent A LOT of money. The problem was that I had structural problems in my arms that i needed surgery for. The OD didnt even order any type of XRAY to see what was going on inside me. I personally think it is non sense.

I used to go to chiro. and the only thing that seemed to help me was the 'activator' gadget that Manyou mentions.
