I was just wondering if eye floaters are really a symptom of LD? I have a lot of other things going on that suggests I may have LD, some may be familiar with my other posts. about a year ago I started to develop these transparent type floaters in my eyes. Here we are a year later and they have multiplied to the point where I see 15 or 20 strands drift by every time I move my eyes from side to side. I not only see them outside in the bright sky or on white backgrounds but I see them everywhere and in all lighting conditions except when its dark. My floaters are made up of cells clumped together to form various shapes but most are very lengthly chains of cells that look like a worm. When I squint my eyes I can without exaggeration see hundreds of cells, clumps of cells, chains of cells, strands and basically just goop falling down from my vision.

I have been to the opthamologist several times and they say my vitreous is clear and they don't see any floaters. This suggests that my floaters are not in the vitreous, but perhaps in a different part of the eye that they can't see. If floaters are a symptom of LD, I would be curious to know if anyone else has had a similar experience with the eye specialists not being able to see their floaters.

I have posted a picture online in a floater forum to see if people could relate to my floaters. If you could check it out and let me know if you see similar floaters that would be great.

Floaters are bad enough to deal with but when they keep multiplying at a huge rate like this it's scary... when will it end?

I also have slight after images, light sensitivity, blury vision at times, and eye pain.

Can anyone relate to this?

Thanks.

I have all the above, plus more. I also experience what I call 'heat wave vision' where everything I look at appears wavey, like looking across a hot surface.

Hi jr991,

Yes, floaters are a symptom of Lyme Disease. I always encourage members to have their eyes checked to be sure something else isn't going on. But yes, I get floaters all the time. The ones I get, are usually bright like lightning bugs and sometimes, they are blue. I get them in the dark as well.

Hi Jr,

Yes, I get the floaters that you describe. Sometimes they are really worrisome, other times they keep me amused while I'm waiting for something!

Seriously, though, they do subside with treatment, as do the other eye-related symptoms that you mentioned.

Have you been to see a Lyme doctor yet?

Geez....I just got floaters this morning. Out of the blue.....I got real light headed and then the floaters appeared. Just like Cajungirl said.....like lightning bugs. As quickly as they came, they left!

I also have this from time to time like "NOW" Have been to eye specialist and everything checks out
ok and for my age no glasses yet.

But he also told me the lyme bacteria can get into the optic nerve and could cause Palsy like in Bell's Palsy.
And they can actually see the damage it can cause by looking in your eyes.

Did you get your western blot test yet??

luvbugg,

Let your doctor know. That could be low blood pressure or high BP making you feel like that. Some do get floaters before they pass out.

I get the same thing did you ever figure out how to get rid of it? Same stuff but i hope its not lyme disease wish there was an answer like low blood pressure or something not to worry about. Guess we gotta wait for the tech to figure these things out easier.

I have these exact same almost 100 percent the way you described these floaters. Plus all day if I look into the sky I see shooting stars in my vision really fast. I was diagnosed with Lyme disease when I was 17 and now I am 24. They have progressed over the years to the extreme.  Did you ever get tested for Lyme Disease?

Floaters are very much a symptom of Lyme disease.

DavidsLyme,
Have you ever had treatment for your Lyme disease?
Treating with Acupuncture, Traditional & Modern Chinese Medicine & Western Herbs. Before tx, I had all but 20 of the symptoms on the "Master Symptom List" for Lyme disease.

Mine are having a crazy party lately...

Now that springtime is coming (less clouds, we had a very dark winter over here) it became clear how many floaters I have. It's literally like looking at bacteria through a microcope, all the time. Really disturbing when the weather is clear. After images are also very bad, as also blurry vision.

Sometimes it's so bad that I suddenly jump aside on the sidewalk because I see something approaching. Or I dive away like a boxer trying to avoid a strike. I must seem crazy... all I do is look around if anyone noticed and start laughing at my behaviour - lol
Diagnosed with Bartonella June 2012, Lyme+ too. Sick for 15-18 years (33 now). Started treatment August 2012 with antibiotics (ILADS protocol) + cyst busting essential oils + Buhner's Core Protocol. Leaky gut, heavy metals, EBV, XMRV, erythema nodosum, Hodgkin's Lymphoma at 15, arthritis, food allergies/intolerances, histamine/chemical intolerance and much more

"Blessed are we who can laugh at ourselves for we shall ever cease to be amused!"

I keep saying that I will be amused my whole life!!! LOL!!!
