I'm still new to lyme - was bitten by a tick 3.5 months ago, first symptoms started 2.5 months ago. I found out today that in addition to lyme, I also have babesiosis (and just started a new regimen of detox supplements and naturopathic lyme/babesiosis treatment).

But, over the last few weeks, I've been having one acne breakout after another. My skin is never entirely clear, but it's much worse now than it has been in years. I haven't changed soap/shampoo/detergent recently. Is this a lyme symptom? Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi Aviva and welcome,

I'm really curious..do you think the acne is from medication or from tick bite.
i am asking because a few years ago my niece was on the couch for two years with this insane acne that they finally had to give her acetone and because they tried everything and nothing could bring it under control until they finally did use acetone and who knows what else she had to have skiing graph on her face and her back.

she looks like a burn victim. She was so sick and depressed while this was going on she had to stop school for a year. I am the only one who suspects lyme and I see her now still suffering with these debilitating migraines.

she never got tested and this was before I realized how this lyme causes so many different reactions.

How old are you? teenager? what are the detox supplements? did you take abx?

You might check and see if one of your supplements has DHEA in it ... hehe .... that will do it.

In theory men can take up to 100 mg/day and women 50 mg/day (could get hair growth problems etc. over that).  At 100 mg/ day I had bad acne.  My then 19 yr old daughter thought it was pretty funny when I asked for her help on acne stuff at the pharmacy.

We dropped back to 50 mg/ day and I haven't had much problems since.

I had a sandpaper like rash on my forehead while trying for years to get diagnosed with something and finally lyme. It has finally just disappeared after being on antibiotics for almost 2 years. LLMD said it was toxins trying to come out. IDK whether the antibiotics or supplements cleared it or what but glad its gone.

Agmaar< ae you saying DHEA the supplement? You know I feel like I get more aggressive when I take it but it comes out low on my blood work so I got it form the compound pharmacy which means I paid more and then when I had my next test my DHEA was high.

I would like to know what causes tha really bad cyst type acne when the skin turns purple and scarred for life.

I think it is either tick borne or bacterial or maybe even a huge hormone imbalance caused by lyme or confections.

Also it just flashed on me that some people were getting abx that would be used for acne and it works for lyme.
Ihave to look up what is this acetone or accutane.

Here's another thought to throw in the mix!! Acne can be the skins' way of saying that it's having trouble detoxing!! This is why dry skin brushing and detox baths are so helpful.

The acne started a few days after I stopped taking doxy, but before I started any other supplements. I was wondering if it maybe was my body trying to get out toxins. Or if it had something to do with the borrelia/babesia maybe being more active?

I'm 29 years old. I was on tetracycline (in the doxy family) and accutane (basically a really high dose of vitamin A) for acne when I was a teenager, but my skin has been mostly clear since then.

I just started taking "Greens First" and "lappa" (which has burdock root, sarsparilla root, heartsease leaf, birch leaf, butternut leaf, thyme, acacia, licorice and fennel) for detox. I've been getting lazy about taking regular detox baths, but I'm going to try to start being good about it again. Hopefully the detox will help the acne! (and my liver)
