Hi all:
I'm new here, I'll try to fill in my journey concisely. I'm a 50 year old female.  I haven't felt really well for many years.  I saw numerous doctors and was diagnosed with everything from fibromyalgia to arthritis.  One doctor thought I needed to see a physiciatrist. Finally in 1999 I was found with MS.  Since then it's been "interesting".  Many useless drugs later I discovered Lyme.  This was 2007 and it took 2 years for the proper test to be administered and for a positive Lyme result to appear.  I could really use your help in finding a Lyme Literate Doctor in New Mexico.  I have tried some internists but none want to touch Lyme patients. Thanks for reading my rant.  It's good to know someone out there cares enough to have this forum and chat.
God Bless,
--Mary Katherine

Mary,

Dr. K. did live in Santa Fe, but now he is in Boulder, still not too far. He helped my wife and son. They got lyme while we were living in NY. He is really great and should be able to help you. Hang in there, my wife and son were on antibiotics, supplements, immune boosters, and strict diet for close to a year, but they have both been symptom free for over two years now. In fact, one of the main reasons we moved to NM was to get away from lyme, it is ridiculous in NY.

Hi Wagonman!
I'm sorry, but we don't like to share all of the contact info for any doc that is not very public. We have concerns that by openly sharing their info, it could help those that wish to harm our docs in some way to find them easier.

We need to protect out docs, so that they can continue to fight for us and to treat us. In order to share more info on a doc, please set up an email address where people can contact you & invite them to email you, please.

Thank you very much! :-)

Hi Mexlymie!
Welcome to Healing Well's Lyme Disease forum! I am so sorry that you have a need to be here, but I am sure glad you found us! I'm sure you will find us to be a helpful, caring and understanding group!!

If you haven't already, it would be beneficial for you to start with reading through the thread at the top of the forum titled, "New to Lyme?...Start here!!", as it is packed full of relevant information and informative links that have been put together by our members here! We also have a pretty good search function on this forum to help you narrow down your search for information from past posts.

For information on finding a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor(LLMD) in your area:

You can email Stephanie at: stephanie@turnthecorner.org You can also go to: www.turnthecorner.org/bod.htm if you want to learn a little bit more about Lyme Disease.

You can also go to The Lyme Disease Association and search for LLMD's 3 times in a month. You have to register first. Here is the link:www.lymediseaseassociation.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=277&Itemid=74

You will want to find an ILADS (International Lyme And Associated Diseases Society) doctor. The ILADS site is another great place to read to get you started on your Lyme journey. www.ilads.org/lyme_disease/treatment_guidelines_clearing_ilads.html

I do hope this helps. Once again, welcome to our little spot!!

Thank you Wagonman for your reply. I don't know if this is proper but if you could e-mail me the name and address of your doctor to: --that would be great. I really need help. If not, I understand and thanks again for trying to help.

Traveler:
Thank you for the great links and your welcome. These are very good sites for us "newbies". I did try the lymedisease association a while back and I did recieve the names and phone numbers of 3 LLMD's. None of the 3 were taking Lyme patients any longer, which is why I totally understand the need to protect the few brave doctors that are out there helping folks like myself. I'm glad I found this community, I'll troll often.

Dear MexLymie:

Is there any way you and I can excahnge emails . We are in the same area and I am having a very difficult time with all of this. I'm pretty sure I have Lyme Disease and I have even found a doc in town that claims she is a Lyme literate doc but she is VERY expensive and only takes cash or credit. Anyway, enough complaining. I was just wondering if you have found any luck at at.

Thank you!

^ Fixgear1,
Many of these people are no longer on the board as this thread is four years old. You should start a new thread with your information.

Fixgear - it shows I edited your post. All I did was delete your email address...we don't post our addresses because the public (non forum members) can see it and you will get spammed.

I'd like to welcome you to our community! This forum is a great place for support and information.

To enable your email option (so that only forum members can email you) -do the following:

Click on "My Profile" (upper left blue bar), then click on "Edit Profile", then click on "Show my email", then scroll down and click "submit" to save the changes.

I agree with Sarah - you should start a new thread as this one is really old.

Hi Fixgear, As the others were trying to explain, it's not safe to put your email up on an open forum like this. Anyone with computer access can read these forums and start sending you spam - so I edited this post as well to remove your email.

You will need to enable your email option in your profile in order to receive any recommendations, as we don't allow doctor's names and contact info to be posted on the forum for several reasons. You can enable your email option in your profile, under 'edit profile'. Be sure to click the submit button to actually save your preference.

I don't have any listings for Lyme Literate Doctors in New Mexico. All I have is the links that I posted above, years ago. I'll repost them in this post now for you though:

You can start a new thread titled something like "Looking for LLMD in the (insert the nearest larger city & state) area". Members can email you about the LLMD's that they see in that area if you have your email enabled. We don't allow doctors names to be posted though.

You can also email the Tick-Borne Disease Alliance at[url]medicalinfo@tbdalliance.org for LLMD referrals and you can go to tbdalliance.org to learn more about these infections.

You can also go to The Lyme Disease Association and search for LLMD's 3 times in a month. You have to register first. Here is the link:
www.lymediseaseassociation.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=277&Itemid=74

You will want to find an ILADS (International Lyme And Associated Diseases Society) trained doctor, as ID Docs (Infectious Disease Doctors) believe Lyme is hard to catch and easy to treat, and don't believe in the reality of chronic Lyme. Go to the ILADS site to read the new (2014) Treatment guidelines to get you started on your healing journey: www.ilads.org/lyme/treatment-guideline.php

ilads.org/ilads_media/physician-referral/

You can also choose to use herbal/natural protocols to treat and heal your infections. There are many that have healed by doing this. There are a few protocols that you could choose from. If you wish to find out more, please just ask!!

So I just went looking and if you are interested there are options in New Mexico for you - there is a practitioner in Silver City, N.M that uses Buhner's protocols to heal people of these infections: buhnerhealinglyme.com/the-protocols/

And one in Albuquerque, N.M that uses Byron White protocols to heal people of these infections:
byronwhiteformulas.com/

But I would still greatly encourage you to start a new topic and have a title saying something like "Looking for a LLMD in ABQ, New Mexico" to see if anyone else has any ideas. This is an old thread and people just won't look at it as much.

Hi,

I have just joined this forum. I recently tried to get in with Dr. Richard Horowitz in Hyde Park NY but his clinic is not open to new patients. I live in New Mexico and am looking for a LLdoctor and one who takes a fairly comprehensive approach as is recommended by Horowitz (i.e., not only looking at a Lyme infection but also co-infections, candida, and the so many other effects of a Lyme infection). I am continuing to have problems from Lyme even though I was treated for it. Does anyone have any suggestions either in NM, the southwest or anywhere in the U.S.? I did try the Lyme Disease Assoc doctor referral system but I could not get it to limit the choices as I needed so it ended up including pediatricians and surgeons. Any other recommendations would be helpful.
Thanks so much.

Hello Traveler,

Thanks for the links that you provided. I am impressed that you feel that you were able to recover from your many infections. Can you give me information on who provided you with treatment for the infections. Any other links would be helpful. I also took your advice and started a new thread on looking for "LLdoc in NM".
Thanks.

Hi Lilylc!

This is my basic story: www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=30&m=2977364

In that thread I refer to my Lyme treatment, here it is in detail: www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=30&m=3244272

And my Bartonella treatment: www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=30&m=2887463

I used a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner, as there are no ILADS trained LLMD's in my state. I used an out of state LLMD for the first year that I treated with abx (antibiotics), but once I was considered an abx failure, I was on my own - and almost no one had ever heard of healing from these infections using only herbs back then (2010), so I was on my own to find what I could and make it work since I couldn't do the 15 hours one way to get to the nearest LLMD after the one I had been seeing passed away.

Something that we are seeing more and more LLMD's starting to understand and even say at times, and with the experience that I had personally, and what I've watched others go through, here is what I believe needs to happen for many of us to heal:

a)Detoxing - gene mutations, mold exposure and multiple tick-borne infections can all prevent us from detoxing well, but we must be able to get those toxins out of our bodies. I have not had any of the gene mutation testing done, although I do seem to have the same kind of issues as those that do - so I figured it was best for me to assume that I did and work to get my body to detox much better. It took a lot of diet changes as things with my body changed, I used a foot soak daily, dry skin brushing, making sure my bowels moved at least once a day (sorry if it's TMI!) pushing myself to drink at least 64 ounces of lemon water each and every day, liver/gall bladder flushes (all natural), oil pulling, taking activated charcoal and keeping the amount of stress in my life at a bare minimum. You can find some really good detoxing suggestions in the "New to Lyme?" thread that sits at the top of the forum:
www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=30&m=1606610

And this is another good list of possible detoxing routines: www.tiredoflyme.com/detox-methods.html

b)Supporting the body functions/systems. We have to have the body working at it's peak performance to heal from something as devastating as these infections. Supporting any gland, organ, body system that is struggling will allow the body to switch it's 'concentration' from just trying to function over to healing.

c) Raise the immune function. Many legitimate Lyme researchers now believe that it's the lowered immune function that determines who gets chronic Lyme and who heals right away. We already know that Lyme lowers the immune function and when a person has Bartonella and/or Babesia, the immune function is further compromised, so to heal we must raise our immune function.

d) Lastly, oddly enough, are anti-infective treatments. Many of us have experienced treatment failures or set backs, so we can see that the treatments aren't the only thing we need to have - there has to be more to the equation, but anti-infective treatments are very important!! Lyme bacteria are one of the most complicated bacteria! Although it takes only hours or days for most bacteria to replicate, Lyme bacteria only replicates in the body every few weeks.

Keep asking questions!! The learning curve is pretty wicked, but we can be a big help to you!!
