I read on the forum that you should not take Flagyl with alcohol but would one or two drops of Nutramedix Houttuynia really make a difference?

If you have any experience with Nutramedix Houttuynia, Please share.

Hi Wiseguy,
I have not taken Nutramedix Houttuynia, but I have taken Houtttuynia for for 6 months for my Bartonella infection, and do/have used several tinctures in my treatment as well. There is so very little alcohol in a full bottle of tincture, that just a couple of drops won't contain hardly any alcohol, since the liquid is only 1/2 alcohol to begin with.

I found this on an Herbalists' site (www.herbcraft.org/preparations.html)

"For those concerned about the alcohol intake involved in the use of tinctures, I offer the following information: A full dropper bottle of tincture is usually one ounce, and an average of 50% alcohol… the equivalent of 1 "shot of" 100 proof vodka. Of this, a usual dose of tincture is approximately 30 drops, so imagine that shat glass filled with just 30 drops of vodka, only half of which is alcohol. This is approximately the same amount of alcohol contained in 1-2 ripe bananas (Yes, bananas do contain alcohol!). This is a relatively insignificant amount of alcohol…"

I have read somewhere that you can remove the alcohol by heating the tincture, but I would be quite concerned about changing the nature of the plant extracts by applying heat.....just a thought.

I've made amazing progress in my eyes! I only took it for about 6 months and have had about a 75% reduction in my Bart symptoms. I'll have to go back on it in the not-so-distant future, I'm sure, but right now I'm off of that in order to treat Babesia.

Is this something you take or are considering?

Interesting. It is something I am considering taking. I posted a little while ago wondering about what peoples experiences were re Bartonella treatment.

www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=30&m=2327496

I'm based in the UK and llmd approaches over here are largely allopathic. I have no problems taking abx but would like to supplement them with a herbal approach as well. I get the impression there is a lot to be said for synergy that can be achieved between multiple modes of attack. My overwhelming symptoms are Bartonella specific hence my interest in something that will target it - however it seems like Bart is one of the hardest coinfections to treat and one of the ones with the fewest specific proven approaches.

Can you tell me a bit more about where you source it, how much it costs and what sort of dose rates you are using?

Thanks, Hugh

I almost posted in that thread, but I saw that you had already mentioned Zhang's HH caps, which is Houttuyniae, so I figured you had the info you needed on it - sorry!

I got my herbs (whole leaf) from my Chinese Medicine Practitioner. I did a search for Houttuyniae on the internet and it's not easy to find the whole leaf herb, but if you can find it, that's what I would recommend using. It makes a nice medicinal tea, very similar to the taste of regular black tea that is usually used for iced tea here in the US. The powdered stuff - from what I've read from another member's post once - is kind of nasty as it's slimy.

Unfortunately I'm unsure of it's cost. I know that I was told how much the herb was at the beginning of my treatment, but I really can't remember. I take a lot of different herbs and tinctures from my doc and I just pay for them all at once.

Now the dosage I know when using the fresh - dried whole leaf herb!! smilewinkgrin I used only 3 grams a day steeped in 3 cups of water. Drink 1 cup three times a day.

I didn't realize that Bartonella had the reputation of being so hard to treat! As I said, after about 6 months of using it religiously, I stopped using it about 2 weeks ago and I have had very few Bartonella symptoms return!

I hope this helps!
