I am having a huge problem getting rid of the upper respiratory infection that I have. Is there a correlation between upper respiratory infections and lyme/bart?

Hey AnneRoto -
I have never heard of any correlation/causation but I do know that if you have lyme then your immune system is likely compromised and therefore it takes longer to fight through things. I have experienced lots and lots of colds that used to linger and linger and linger. I know that lyme likes to hang out in your sinuses and the second I started to treat my lyme I started to get sinus drainage kick up but it's been clear for 9 months now which is amazing. I'm guessing you could have something similar in your lungs. You've got me curious now.

Justascarf2....interesting about sinus & lyme. Have suffered from severe sinus issues for YEARS, dx'd with lyme Jan....out of desperation resorted to sinus surgery in Aug (I needed relief!!!! and surgery is ALWAYS last resort for me). Have had mold illness many years & thought this was my sinus issue. Since surgery (which helped ease the pressure tremendously) still have many issues possibly related to the allergy aspect (multiple because of mold). Beginning to think lyme is a part of it, too. Do you know where I can read more about the sinus/lyme connection? I appreciate your bringing the subject up. AnneRoto....good luck with your URI...I'm sorry I don't have any info on that & lyme....I'm still learning.

Hi Anne!
How have you been? I do hope that you are still having all of those good days mostly!

Here is a wonderful article written by John Bleiweiss, MD that talks about both sinusitis and upper respiratory tract infections and Lyme.

I do hope that you all get past these co-conditions soon! I still deal with the sinusitis, but have gotten past (fingers crossed, knock on wood!) the upper respiratory infections. With continued treatments, I'm confident that I'll get past the sinusitis as well!

Leave it to Traveler to find a document!

Traveler, can you tell me something... How do you read these documents and not worry about the findings. Some of these things can be scary to me.

LOL, Justascarf!!

Well, a lot of these things can scare me as well - especially since I have had these diseases for most of my life. I also have such a high risk of having cancer - several types run in both sides of my family - and I've learned to live with that without panicking somehow!!

One thing I realize - there is risk in life. I could be in a very bad auto accident any time I go somewhere, or any number of other things that are "risky" in life. Sometimes I even have to talk myself down, as my anxiety will kick in - but mostly I refuse to allow myself to dwell on it.

Knowledge is power, and by knowing what could happen doesn't mean I have any more of a chance of it happening, but it does mean that I may be a bit more prepared for it if it does happen! :-)
