Hi everyone - I'm new here just thought I'd introduce myself. I am a Systems Administrator from Atlanta, GA. I was diagnosed with migraines when I was 4 yrs old. I have been getting them ever since. I have been through more medication trying to find relief, all with no success. I was going to a Neurologist for a while and her last resort was botox... I had to stop seeing her for insurance purposes. The foods that trigger migraines for me are excessive caffeine, although i need caffeine to prevent one (ironic eh?) and mozzarella cheese. Other things that trigger my migraines are oversleeping, hitting my head even slightly, a lot of gum chewing, and strong flowery smells such as perfume. I'm glad to have found an active group because I am willing to try new techniques... unlike medicine I can do multiple techniques if one doesnt work. When I was trying new medicine if it didnt work i was SOL until i was able to take something else. Anyway... my migraines have slowed to 4 or so a month, before it was 2-4 times a week. things that changed: started a job that was the same hrs m-f and stopped smoking. This was about 2 yrs ago, but I still struggle with them. I have had a LOT of time to come up with techniques that help me when I have a migraine. These are what I do
1) take a hot shower and let the water just run on my head for as long as I can stand it, or until I get too nauseous.
2) sit up, laying down makes mine worse!
3) play a relaxing story in my head... when I was young my mother got me a relaxation tape on the suggestion of my doctor. I have since lost the tape but I know it by heart so I just play it in my head...

So hi everyone and I look forward to learning from everyone :)

Thanks for the tip on the relaxtion story tip. We fear my daughter may end up getting migraines. I get them and my mother gets them and my daughter will wake up in the these moods similiar to what I do when I have a migraine. She is 4 almost 5 so that is a neat little trick to do if we think she might have one. Her ped. said there is no real way of telling yet. They checked her eyes because she was complaining of her eye hurting.

When I was young (before puberty) I would get so nauseous that I would vomit from migraines, that actually worked to get rid of them. If your daughter happens to vomit from the pain, note if she gets better afterwards. My mother would always rub or pat my back and it would soothe and relax me when I was your daughters age. When I was able to comprehend a relaxation tape thats when she got it for me, when I was about 8 or so. but you could possibly tell her relaxation stories maybe recall a time when she was relaxing a pool, ask her to remember in her head what the water felt like on her toes, then her feet, then her legs.. etc... i havent been 4 yrs old in a long time so i'm not really sure if this is outside her level of comprehension but good luck and I hope she doesnt end up with them

Hi! Iam a newy to the site as well.
It is nice to know that you are not alone but at the same time feel utterly alone when struggling with migraines.
I have had migraines for over 2oyrs and they have gotten worse with age and am unable to work at present.
Just wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation where been there done that is maxed out and now am just waiting for things to mellow out a bit.
