I've had terrible left-sided headaches for the past three weeks. Nothing seems to help...aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, Aleve, Tylenol. I've been to the doctor and he believes it's sinus-related. I have pain behind my left eye and my vision is a bit funny. I'm worried because the pain is with me from the minute I wake up until the moment I go to bed. Exertion makes it worse -- bending down and then coming up quickly. I'm 36 years old and I'm in excellent health (other than these dreaded headaches)...depression seems to be setting in, as I'm scared. Can anyone please offer some advice...I'm not sure if it is sinus (stress) or something more serious (i.e., brain tumor).

Use your fear to look up info with a search engine. There are so many things it could be, and I don't think any of them are going to kill or disable you. Also, change that fear to communicate a sense of urgency to your doctor(s) that you want to get a confirmed diagnosis and treatment and prognosis.

You haven't said where the doctor left you. Did he say call him if it doesn't resolve in 'x' days? Did he tell you to try heat, or antihistamines or what? Get him to not just rattle off possible diagnoses, but to make you understand them -- take notes. Follow up with questions until you are sure you understand wht to do.

Do you have allergies? Taking any medicationss? For what conditions? How long has this been goig on? Do you have a runny nose? Is your mucus clear, cloudy, thin, or thick? What color if any? You seemed to be implying that you are able to sleep ok. Do you have post nasal drip?

What did your doctor say to do next?

thank you for responding. i've been googling my symptoms and tend to fear the worst...my doctor said to try antibiotics and sinus medication for 10 days and notify him if things don't improve. my post-nasal drip seems to be clear and there isn't much congestion in my nose. do you think it might be muscular? the trapezoid muscle because the pain radiates up from my neck...that's why he thinks it's either sinus or tension related.

Does it hurt if you gently press on the bone around the eye or above the eye?? If you try using warm soaks does it help? If so then you most likely do have a sinus problem. The biggest problem I had was the family dr who will only give you antibiotics for 10 days and that never helps if you have a bad infection. I ended up going to an ENT who put me on antibiotics for 4 months and it took that long to clear up the problem. So if you are not getting anywhere, go to an ENT.

good idea! thank you for your feedback. i'm actually heading to a chiropractor this afternoon to see if he has any suggestions too. the stress of not knowing what's going on isn't helping!

yes, it does hurt when i press on the bone around my left eye...how do you do the warm soaks? was your problem sinus related? did it give you terrible one-sided headaches?

is this a UK website? i'm actually located in houston, texas but i was born in london :)
