I've been taking Aleve to help keep my migraines to a functioning level on a daily basis. During the beautiful summer weather I could get by with 2-3 each day. Now I'm up to 6-8 Aleve each day. I know this isn't good for me. I'm cutting myself back *slowly* regardless as to whether I have to live in bed or not.

Here's what I've tried so far...
Maxalt - works for about 6 hours, then back to where my pain was
Imitrex - works for about 2 hours, then back to where my pain was
Treximet - works for about 3 hours, then back to where my pain was
Amerge - did nothing
Fioricet - did nothing
Midrin - did nothing
Depokote ER - did nothing
Topamax - every side effect possible after 2 pills, had to quit taking it

I go back to my Dr. next Tuesday! He's my family Dr., who does a heck of a lot more for me than my Neorologist did (long story). I told my Dr I want him to treat me instead of my Neuro.. He OK'd it, but made me promise I would go back to the Neuro IF we need him.

If I don't take something on a daily basis I will end up with a never ending migraine. It's bad enough when they last 10 straight days and nothing works on those ones. We're still trying to figure out what is causing this pain. I've found tons of triggers that I avoid constantly. I think it's also a lot of weather and stress triggers too.

So is there anything you take on a daily basis I should mention to my Dr. at my next appt.? I know I have to tell him how many Aleve I've been having to take. He's not going to be a happy camper. It's the only otc I've found that even does a little for me.

I'm new to this forum and was just reading some old posts...i think you already had your "next' appt with the doc, but i wanted to mention this. I have Chronic Daily headaches and my neurologist and i decided to try Keppra. I've been on it a little over a month now, i havent had any BAD migraines but still have my daily headaches. I was told i need to give it 3 months to start working though, so we'll see. My primary care doctor also mentioned trying Magnesium (vitamin B-2) and Calcium, so i am going to try that as well. I've already tried the Topamax, and Depakote. I take Relpax and/or Imitrex to help with my headaches.

I've been going through the worst migraines for the past 3 years can't look at light, nor do I want to hear any sounds at all,not even my own footsteps, I have been past from doctor to doctor because nothing works on my migraines,I've had MRI's, EEG's, test, after test after test, I've been on Trimethobenzamide, nadoolol, Keppra,Depakote, Lyrica, Propranolol, Nortriptyline, Topamax, blood pressure meds like Verapamil etc, I'm now on 1200mg of Neurontin daily, and Vivactil daily, I've gone with rescue meds like maxalt, Imitrex, Fioricet, Codeine, Hydrocodone, stadole, hydroxyzine, prochlorperazine, ketoprofen with metoclopramide, a muscle relaxer called carisoprodol, and I take Ambien CR just to sleep, my doctors just say they can't think of anything else to put me on, so they pass me to another doctor. With all these meds not working on my migraines, would anyone consider recommending TREXIMET? I get sever migraines about 4-5 times a week,if I don't get to the migraine it can last up to 2 weeks, then I'm off to the emergency room once again, if anyone is like this and has tried the new Treximet and it worked I would love to hear from them! My thoughts are it can't hurt to try, but are the side effect really bad, thats what I worry about. I've had some really BAD reaction to some of the meds the doctors have recommended, Topamax was bad, Imitrex,Zomig, and Migranal all tightened my chest and it hurt really bad. I've even tried the Dihydroergotamine shots in my thighs which left me limping for atleast one day because it hurt so bad. Keppra and Depakote gave me nightmares of my past, like I was there all over again, so detailed. Scary! My weight has gone up on some meds, and down on others. Steriods kill me, I gain about 10 lbs in about a week. then with topamax I lost about 25 lbs. If anyone recommends Treximet or anything else, I would love to read some feedback. Thank you.

my neurologist gave me a sample of Treximet about a month ago. It worked for me at the time but probably only because i took it at the beginning of a headache , so i caught it in time. I didnt have any side effects with it. All it is , is imitrex and a high dose of Naproxen. If you had bad side effects with Imitrex than its probably safe to say you will have some with the Treximet. I've also been on Topamax, Depakote ER and now Keppra. When i first tried imitrex it made my jaw hurt (i also have TMJ) but that only lasted the first few times i took it. Now sometimes it doenst work at all. Today is the 3rd day in a row i've had a headache and it was getting worse so i went to the clinic for an injection. They gave me Phenegrin and Nubaine. It worked for all of 2 hours then the headache came back ..except now its on my left side of my head instead of the right. Doc said i could take an imitrex so i did, it helped...but again only temporarily . Guess i will just have to put up with the headache until it goes away on its own. ...what else is new tho...im use to it

I too go to the clinic for a injection when my headaches get too bad for any of my meds to take effect. Have you ever had them give you phenegrin and stadol? It burns really bad, (but I'm sure you already know that, its the phengrin that burns) It puts you out completely for atleast a couple of hours or more and unless the weather isn't bad (which is one of my triggers) then I'm migraine free for atleast 24 hours, and for me thats REALLY GOOD. It breaks the cycle according to my doctor. So if another starts up I can take my meds and actually have them work. Thank you for giving your opinion, you are probably right about the Treximet, if I had a reaction to Imitrex it will probably do the same thing to me. Does anyone else have another opinion on what I could try? I'm all ears, anything to get off the hydromophone he has me on now. It makes me loopy all day and I hate it. Good luck with your new meds, I really hope it works for you. And anyone else that takes it, I think we all know here how bad it can get!!!! I too, like alot of others, have had a hysterectomy because of a personal problem and that my doctor said it may cure my migrains, which it DID NOT!!

It's horrible when there are no answers and we're the Dr.'s test subjects.

Yes, I had my Dr. appt. Tuesday. As soon as I opening the office door I had a smell hit me like a ton of bricks. Someone in the waiting room had a horrible smell, like a sweaty working smell. So I sat as far away from everyone as I could. While sitting there my head got worse and worse, my eye kept swelling and swelling. It was horrible. I couldn't think about what I wanted to talk to my Dr about. Hell, when I have a migraine rolling in I can barely hold a conversation. My brain doesn't function like normal.

Anyway, Dr gave refilled my Maxalt (the only med that has worked for me). He also put me on Propranol blood pressure med. He wants me to stay on it for 1 month and see what happens.

I ended up going back to the clinic yesterday evening for another shot. The headache was worse then it was that morning. so again they gave me nubaine and phenigrin. I dont know why they wont try something else..i have told them a few times now that the nubaine hasnt been working. I called my neurologist this morning and the nurse left a message for him..i am wanting to see if he will give me some samples of other meds i could try to stop a migraine. my next appt with him isnt till the 29th and i dont want to end up back at the clinic for a shot . I came to work today even tho my head still hurts, and my eyes are burning. I took an imitrex about an hour ago, hopefully that will help a little. anyways, im really glad i found this forumn, it helps knowing there are other people out there that understand the pain im in. alot of my stress comes from dealing with these headaches and not having anyone around that understands that i am actually in pain almost EVERY DAY

I've been going to the clinic for shots for about 3 years now. I can only go every two weeks if I have to go and floresent lights are anothe one of my triggers, so while waiting in the waiting room the smallest sound, the lights, and smells make me so much worse!!! Lately I've only have to go once a month. I've lost feeling in my right hip skin from the shots. So I know its the last resort. I also know how hard it is to go to work with a migrain. How you don't want to hear any sounds, or look at any type of light, and how smells are enhanced, that someone without migrains doesn't understand what all comes with a migrain. I'm a network support specialist and support so I take calls from people for help all day. I also know how bad it hurts to even hear the sound of your own voice. I too have pain everyday, I'm so sorry to hear you do too. I don't wish that on anyone! I know Imitrex is only for if you catch the migrain in time, do you take anything for it if its already in progress? Maybe I can make some suggestions that might help! How long have you been having your migrains? I hope you are feeling better! You are right, its nice to be able to talk to people that understand what I'm going through. I'm so glad I found this forum too!

I've been getting my headaches since i was in high school ..so 10 years or so...my chronic headaches/migraines have been about the past 6 years. If the headache is already in progress i sometimes take Goody powder or Ibprofen or my imitrex. MOST of the time it only elminates SOME of the pain. Sometimes i get lucky and it completely goes away(very rarely) This morning i woke up at 430am with a headache so i tried the sample of Maxalt that my neuro gave me and went back to bed. i woke up 2 hours later and it was gone...havent had a headache since. (so far lol...its only noon) Hopefully the Maxalt will continue to work better then the imitrex. I didnt have any side effects . ...as far as the shots....my hips hurt for a long time afterwords...like its bruised except there is no bruise.

I was on Maxalt for about a year, it worked great at first, I guess my body just got use to it and it stopped working. I'm glad it worked for you!! I too woke up about 4 with a headache, I took one of my muscle relaxer called Carisoprodol, went back to sleep and it was gone. I take excedrin (i'm not suppose to, according to my doctor) but it works better than anything I have that is prescribed to take at the beginning of a migrain. Weather changes and storms really get to me and we've been having them for the last 2 days. I'm in Texas and its already beginning to feel like fall. Sad to see summer leave. I hope you are pain free today, atleast one of us will be. Have a good day everyone.
