Does anyone know how a person can find qualified cardiologists that perform the patching of pfo's. My wife recently found out she has a pfo but the cardiologist feels she doesn't need to have it patched.  He said it was small.  I am trying to get a second opinion.  Is there a way to search by geographic area or any credentialing sites?  We live in Wisconsin and are looking for providers that know what they are doing and have experience with PFO closures.

Hello jehoshaphat,

I don't know where you are in the search for someone that can patch your wifes PFO but there is a company in the suburbs of Minneapolis who makes a patch for the PFO.

I currently have a PFO and am weighing in on whether or not this is the right fix for me.  Dr. Shear of North Memorial Hospital (part of north Minneapolis) is considering this as an option for me.  Her people performed a TEE on me Wednesday this week.  My next meeting with Dr. Shear is another week from now.

The bottom line is there is a company here and a few different doctors within the Minneapolis area that perform this procedure.  Call Dr. Shear at 763-520-2052.

Hope this helps,
