why am i suddenly getting migraines

I used to suffer from migraines in my early teens bu i grew out of them. I recently stopped nursing my seocond child and had a terrible migraine (went numb on one side threw up and ended up at the hospital as i had no idea what was going on!). i thought perhaps it was to do with my hormones bu i have ahd three migraines in the last 30 days. am i doomed to this for life now? whats causing them? i have booked an appointment with my dr to get some drugs (regular pain killers are useless!) but i don't have an appointment for another week
