I have suffered from migraines for several years, lately they have taken over my life. I have recently lost my job due to so many "sick days". I have been to doctors and neurologists time and time again with no answers. Recently I have had a new symptom, my fingers on both hands turn inward towards my palms and clamp tightly down. The only way to pry them apart is to have someone else open them for me but with much resistance, unfortunately they turn back in. My usual migraine symptoms are; severe sweating, auras, pounding in my head and frequent passing out and now this new symptom. Does anyone have any advice?? My neurologist will not even speak to me since I lost my job and have no insurance. My relief usually entails a trip to the local ER where they give me a shot of Demerol or Nubain. I know for a fact that they have labeled me a "drug seeker". I am currently taking Topamax, Propanolol, Magnesium, and Vit B-2. I have tried Maxalt, Fiorecet, Excedrin Migraine, Aleve, and Advil Liquid-Gels but no success. To make things worse, I went to the local clinic out of desperation and the physician told me that my hands turning inwards was not related to my migraines and that I needed to seek counseling, she did nothing for my migraine and sent me out the door. So many people out there do not understand the pain and suffering that migraines cause. Any advice, suggestions, or home remedies would greatly be appreciated!!

Hi Cougar,

Welcome to Healing Well. Sorry to hear about what you are going through! Art chick is right about finding a Neurologist who is a Headache Specialist!! I know the finance side of things is a problem to you but if there is any way you can do it, I strongly suggest you do as the problem with your hands sounds Neurologically based!!

I wish I could help you more but we are here to support and not to diagnose, but it sounds like you need attention. Finding a Headache Specialist was the best thing I ever did!!! Let me know how you get on.

take care

Go to a teaching hospital and get a neurologist there. And put your primary doctor straight, demand a second opinion. As far as your job? Contact the ADA because they violated the law. If you have a medical condition and a medical note stating from your physician you have to be allowed FMLA after your sick hours are used up. They can not fire you on medical grounds and must provide a reasonable accomondation. Further ado, you need a neurologist and you need testing done. Your new symptom is neurological.

ditto spasticity i had in arms and legs need counselling hahahaha!!, I have seen neuro Monday this week after 18months of sporadic left side weakness presenting as stroke was in hospital Oct 2008 for a week mri clear neuro obs said migraine aura w/headache, now its aura no headache is the 'only diagnosis i can make at the moment' sounds a bit fishy i worry for MS ME maybe they are too 'expensive' to diagnose. if i am diagnosed in another 12-24moths with MS I will raise the roof!!!!! Anyway i have taken this as diagnosed twice so am learning all i can and how to cope with migraine.
