Hi There,
I am new to this forum and would desperately like some advice.
For the last two weeks I have been having headaches which come and go many times a day with facial numbness around the eye, ear and cheek bone which also runs down the side of my left face. I also keep having facial pain which is not too painful but feels like a burning sensation beneath the skin.
I also have neck pain which when i tilt my head to the left tends to hurt a bit.
I have been to the doctors so many times and first doc told me to take paracetamol which didn't seem to help much.
Second doctor prescribed me 20mg of Amitriptyline which did absolutely nothing.
Third doctor sent me to hospital and once i got there they took bloods which came back normal so sent me home packing.
This morning the headaches were so bad i decided to go back to my doctor and he suggested that maybe the neck pain was causing me to have headaches and the facial pain and numbness and suggested I go to physio which i have booked straight away for this coming Monday. Also he prescribed me co-dydramol for pain relief.
The strange thing is when i got home from the doctors the hospital phoned me to ask how I was and when I told her I wasn't feeling good she told me if the Co-Dydramol doesn't ease the headaches she wants me to go to my GP first thing tomorrow morning.
So far I have taken Co-dyramol 3 times today and pain doesn't seem to ease.
I am really worried this could be something more serious so could anyone suggest what they think I should do.
I keep thinking of brain tumours but if there was some abnormality would the blood tests they took from me show something?
Also sorry to keep on but if I did go to hospital and they have to do some brain scans is this exposing me to Radiation as I have had a few x-rays (for other problems) a few months ago?
I really hope someone could tell me what might be wrong with me as I am so worried.
Thank You for taking your time to read my post.

Hi Sophia,

Welcome to Healing Well. Sorry to hear that you are suffering with all this.

First of all please do not worry, headache is usually the last symptom for brain tumours, and having further scans will be quite safe, please don't trouble yourself about this.

You need to go back to your GP and get yourself referred to a Neurologist who is a Headache Specialist. This may take some time and you may have to travel to see a good one, but it will be well worth it!!

Most Neurologists do not know very much about headache, so one who specialises in headache will get to the bottom of this for you. As there may be a wait, the sooner you get the ball rolling the better!

Please let me know how you get on??

take care

Ann

P.S.  Are you in the UK???

Hello Ann,
Thank You very much for your reply.
I am 42 years old and live in the UK.
I have booked to see a physio this afternoon just to see if it may be a pinched nerve but also my GP is now referring me to a neurologist. The headaches are worrying me because I started to think what if it is a brain tumor which is silly really but every time something goes wrong with me i have a real fear of doom and gloom when probably it could be something very simple.
Unfortunately i also suffer with moderate oesophagitus due to two different doctors prescribing me with two different anti-inflammatorys but at the moment I'm taking 30mg lansoprazole which seems to help.
I'm so glad I found this website and reading peoples problems and I will keep you updated and once they found out what is wrong with me if I can help anyone else with same or similar symtons it would be an added bonus.
Thank You again.
Sophia

Hi Sophia,

I work on a Helpline for Clusterheadache here in the UK, and through this have got to know many very good Neuros who Specialise in Headache. If you want to email me by clicking on the envelope under my name and let me know where you live I will let you have the details of the nearest one to you!!

Try not to worry about the tumour thing, it is very unlikely that it is that, as usually headache is one of the last symptoms to emerge, by which time a diagnosis has already been made!!!

Look forward to hearing from you!

take care
