Hey fisherman,
I have had occasions during a migraine where I have passed out, or blacked out as you say...although mine were never in a car. I think you should mention to your doctor, but make sure to stress to him that you would like to continue to work...this is your life and you DO have some control over things. But if you tell him you might have options for treatment.

Hang in there and keep us posted,
Sara

Dear Fisherman,

The colored speckly spots you describe are called an 'aura' that is associated with migraine. Blacking out can happen, but you need to inform your doctor. Are you currently taking any preventative medications for migraine? As you know, blacking out while driving or working with machinery could cost you your life or the lives of others.

Has your blood pressure been evaluated lately? I'm wondering if it suddenly gets high, inducing the blackouts. I'm no doctor, you really do need to see yours. There are a lot of medications out there to help migraine patients now and you shouldn't be having to suffer every single day with a headache. If your blood pressure runs high most of the time, you may need to be on medication for that.

I understand that you want to keep at your job and you should be able to, but if you aren't honest with your doctor, he cannot help you appropriately.

Is it possible to see another doctor if your usual one isn't very tuned into migraine problems? Stress can help trigger migraines, but it isn't what's causing them in the first place. Have you been evaluated with and MRI or EEG (electroencephalogram of the brain) to see if you have any problems that could be found that way?

Having had migraines for over 30 years myself, I understand what you mean about it interfering with family life. Here's hoping that things get much better for you very soon!!
Take care ~ Renee

Oh yes you must be honest with your doctor and tell him everything.

if stress is a major factor in your life that is triggering the migraine attacks then perhaps you should look at ways to ease this or treat it.  take some time out to evaluate what is going on at the moment.  i'm sure as a result of missing out your family will want to help you.

look at www.bodykind.com or www.migracap.com for a migraine cap that i use to help with my migraine attacks but its so soothing that i find it great for my nausea and helps me relax.  its had great reviews in the uk and as its a one-off purchase it will also save you a lot of money.

best of all its medication free so no side effects.  take a look and show your gp if you are not sure.

Good luck

What??? Migraleif/Migralief/MigraHealth they are all a combination of B Vitamins, Feverfew and Magnesium. There is no reason you should not be able to drive JUST because of taking this. Now if you are passing out etc with your migraines that might be why your doctor is making that suggestion.
There is actually a book that a Doctor wrote recommending MigraHealth/MigraLeif "preventative" the doctor's name is Dr. Mauskop. I have the title of the book if you need that. You may also want to visit www.migrahealth.com they have some information things on their website.

I have tried it and did have some relief when I did not have insurance and did not have access to presctiption medications. I think it is worth a try. Do some research and let us know how you are doing with that.
