I would appreciate advice and comments please. I am a male in my 50s. I am overweight. I swim 30 minutes each day before work.
In the last few days I have been feeling, occasionally, a "pain" in the left side of my head. It is not a headache. It is not really unpleasant. It is difficult to describe. It almost feels "spongy". I have never suffered from headaches. It occurs three or four times per day and lasts for about 30 to 60 minutes. The pain / feeling seems to centre on a line from just above my left temple to just behind the top of my left ear. So the area affected is about three to four finger widths in size. Nothing else is affected. Can anyone advise why this might be occurring? Thank you in advance to those who kindly respond.

Did you try a benedryl? It could be allergies. Have you tried a chiropractor? Could be a pinched nerve in the neck, or something out of alignment, BUT mention it to your doctor just to be safe. Too many things can cause that.

I would mention it to your doctor. It could be nothing, it could be serious. There's no way of knowing without checking physically, not over the internet.

I'm a chronic migraineur, headaches and migraines are nothing new to me, but last summer to autumn (fall), I started getting sharp pain in my head, in one of two coin-sized regions every time. I asked my neuroscience lecturer in college and my GP, they both said it sounds like a blood vessel bursting occasionally, and that it's probably linked to my migraines. Not sure how serious it is, but it sounds pretty scary, and it made me collapse a few times because my vision went black and I lost my sense of balance then. Thankfully, it went away after about 3 or 4 months of that, but better to be safe than sorry. Get it checked out.

I, too, am experiencing a weird pressure pain on the left side of my head from just above my ear to almost base of skull. It came on suddenly last evening, Friday, 4/6. As I got out of the car the pain hit me hard enough that I grabbed my head. I came in, wondering about it, but just took care of my pets and watched tv. Since it is a strange new pain, I didn't want to take anything for it yet. I have RA and take myriad meds! But I couldn't sleep, so took 1/2 a hydrocodon about 2:15. Slept well, got up about 8, no pain. Then about 3 hours ago, back it came. I feel like I'm being hit w/a bag of nickels every few seconds. So I've been on the Internet rather than go to an ER, hoping for enlightenment. Spine problems have been mentioned a lot, which for me, is very possible. I've had deteriorated discs and have a titanium rod in my lower spine. Someone suggested gabapenten, so I took one. I'll see one of my doctors Monday, but any ideas till then would be so appreciated that I'll tell the Easter bunny to drop off plenty of cadbury eggs for you! Wine and chocolate, the great healers!

I am too dealing with this. It just started a few days ago. I do have chronic migraines & take Gabapentin 600mg 3X a day to help control them & Nortiptyline to help prevent them, but this intense pain is new to me.. My neurologist/headache specialist is out of town for 2 weeks & will probably be getting an MRI. I also do have hydrocephalus with bi–latteral VP shunts (1 hasn't worked in 7 years). I've a total of 39 brain surgeries since Dec '00. Gabapentin is a great medicine. I've been on several migraine & chronic pain meds & it has worked best so far! I've been doing research on this new pain for a couple of days to try & get a better idea of what may be going on!

I have been suffering pains on top left side of head for 1 month now it doesn't feel inside head but on surface as if burn scalp, size is of 4 fingers, back to front
,first I thought it was a tooth root left in on the same side so I had it removed, the next morning the odd pain remained, it seems to run along the left top of my face at times as well. My ears at times feel blocked then unblocked , the pain started after I returned from a trip where lots of flying was involved.
I very healthy and not taking any pain medications, 48 yo male.
I have had higher stress levels of late with one particular problem on my mind seems to have formed a
pain to go with it on my left top.
Im puting this out in the hope any clues may help other and myself.
good luck all.
cheers

I also suffer from migraine and get a stabbing pain but on the right side of my head. Imetrex does nothing for it but Tremedol works wonders. Usually just one will do the trick. Except for Sunday night I had that same pain all night and the next day it was just throbbing but better. Good Luck!

What was the final outcome? Did you find any solutions?
I have experienced almost exactly as you described. I started about 14 months ago with pain in my left ear. I first noticed it after a swim the lake. It felt like I had water in my ear at first. But then I had pain maybe two or three times per month. It has grown steadily until now is is daily and unbearable. the whole left side of my head hurts. I think about it all day every day. I have seen three doctors, including an Ear Nose and Throat specialist. The only solution that has been suggested so far is a tube in my ear. I tried that last month, but nothing has changed. I just can't live with this pain in my head. Lately I have also started having a constant ringing in my left ear. Also, my jaw hurts, my eye sockets hurt, the back of my throat hurts, the roof of my mouth hurts.
