I am a 21 f who has had migrianes since puberty. Over the last 2 years they have only got worse. The last few months I get 2-5 a week, sometimes lasting for days. I have seen doctor after doctor. I have tried the following meds:

Imitrex tabs/ns/inj, maxalt melts, zomig ns, relpax, frova, DHE inj, Migranol, Propanalol, Nadalol, Lamectal, Topamax, Depacote, Dilantin, Trileptal, Serequel, Geodon, Prozac, Lexapro, Flexaril, Lyrica, Neruotin, amitriptilyn, Lidocain Patches, TMJ surgery, Klonopin, Xanex, Valum, Midrin, Prometrium, birth controll, Toradol, Ultram, Ultracet, Fioricet, Darvocet, Hydrocodone, Percocet, Stadol NS, (Nubain & phengergan Shots at ER) and probably some more. Physiatric care, relaxation, hot baths, cold/dark rooms.

None helped the Migraines for more than a couple of months.
I have had anaphalatic reactions to the Lamectal, propanalol and prometrium.
I have had to withdraw from college 3 times, lost jobs and have no social life anymore.
Doctors have even said "its all in your head" and they will stop when you decide for them too...the nerve. I wish it was that easy. Also, they don't want to give me pain meds for rescue hardly...what do I do??

AngMichelle welcome to Healing Well. My word what a lot of drugs you have tried in such a short space of time!! I am struggling with other peoples attitudes just now myself so I can relate to what you are saying. My first husband rammed it down my throat on a daily basis that I had to think positive thoughts and it would go away cos after all it was only in my head and he thought that I did not know what real pain was!!! This went on for 12 years until I believed him!! Needless to say a lot of water has gone under the bridge now and that is one of the many reasons he is an ex-husband!!! lol

Have you seen a Neurologist who is Headaches Specialist? I am currently waiting to see one in the hope that he can find the right combination of drugs for me as I believe now that it will be a combination of drugs that will offer the optimum relief!

Keep in touch here as you will find many folk will be able to relate to you and support you as best they can.
Take care Ann.

Ladies and Gentlemen...

YOU ARE NOT ALONE....

Unfortunately, I do not have magic words for you. I have been in the same situation. I have lost jobs, relationships, dropped out of college (more than once), major financial problems...

I have also learned everything I possibly can...I have tried many treatments (see the massive list on "treatment options" thread) I have fired so many sorry butt doctors, I have tried chiropractic care, massage therapy, and just about every other "alternative" therapy. I have enrolled in studies, joined support groups and then started my own...

Bottom line is to do whatever is possible and necessary to get a little better until you find whatever works. There is no cure but there has to be something to get some kind of relief until there is a cure found!

Currently, I have preventative treatment that works to REDUCE, not eliminate my pain. I have a decent (not great, but better doctor than some of the hmm...slackers, that I had before) I have meds to sleep when I need it, meds when the pain gets UG...and a plan of attack for the ER when I need to go (to avoid the JERKS you can encounter from time to time....(a written statement from your doc or specialist!!!!) let them argue with that!)

Do the best to hang in there....

And come vent here with those who understand in the mean time!
