Hello everyone.  I'm new here and fairly new to migraines too. They started a couple of years ago (but I thought they were sinus headaches), stopped when I was being treated for Graves Disease, and now that my thyroid has been removed and my levels are off the headaches have come back.  I tried Imitrex - it was just "okay".  Midrin works for me sometimes but tends to make me feel sick.  Relpax seems to work great for me but I have a question.  I know I can only take 2 in a 24 hr period and I've only had to do that once. But what about on a weekly or monthly basis? I might go 2 weeks without a migraine, but then again I might have 3 or 4 in one week.
Thanks - and I look forward to being a member of this board.

Hi Lynn,

Welcome to Healing Well. It sounds as though you have a lot on your plate healthwise!! My brother-in-law has graves disease but has not had his thyroid removed. Are you on thyroxin? I am glad you have found something to help with your migraines, I have not had any experience with Relpax myself but I am sure there will be others along to give you some pointers.

However, as we do not have any medical training here we can only offer opinion based on our own experiences. Please ask a pharmacist or a Doctor about long term effects from Relpax. Glad you have joined us, do post again and let us know how you are doing.

Take care Ann.

I have 2+ migraines a week and all that they told me was no more than 2 in 24hrs. It does seem to be working better good though--it just the $ I"m worried about now :)

Thanks for the welcome Ann. You're right - I have more than my share of health problems right now but hopefully everything will level out soon.  I'm taking Synthroid (T4) and I just started taking Cytomel (T3) this week because my levels are off, so hopefully thyroid-wise I'll be feeling better soon.  Actually I think if I can get my thyroid levels right, the migraines will go away.  They did once before.

Mrs Z -- my doctor told me the same thing. In fact I went back to see him because I thought I was taking too many and he said no, but he gave me a script for Midrin and I said I could take that as often as I needed it.  My insurance only pays for 12 a month so it's not like I can get too carried away with them. (the Relpax, that is).  Going through the archives of another board I saw where one lady takes her Relpax almost daily - she just makes sure not to take more than 2 in 24 hrs.

Anyway, thanks for the input!

Lynn

Hi Lynn,

I took Relpax too, but because of insurance, I had to switch to Imitrex. I could only get 6 pills a month with the Relpax, but could get 9 a month with Imitrex. Both seem to work for me, but found that Relpax was better. Unfortunetly I was getting migraines so offten that even 9 pills wasn't enough.

They tried Midrin, but I got really sick with it. They think I had a reaction to it, so Midrin is out of the question for me.

I was put on Toporal XL for a high heart rate issue, and I had less migraines. So the beta blockers seem to work ok for me to help prevent them.

Good luck,
Amby
