Hello all. I am new to this but I came acroos this web site while trying to find out more on this type of migraine.  I have been getting the doctor run around!  I saw my family doctor when i had a migraine for 3 weeks that would not quit.  He said he would scedule a appt. with the neurologist but a wekk later still nothing.  I begin to feel numb down my left side.  It started in my arm then went down into my hip and leg finally getting all the way to my toes.  My speech became slurred and the left side of my face went numb.  After seeing the neurologist he said it would be a good idea to go to the Mayo Clinic but that appt. was 3 weeks away.  In the mean time my symptoms got worse.  So my husband carried me to Shands hospital and the thought a mini-stroke.  But even thought here was abnormalities on the EEG they thought no stroke.  Then they sent me for a CT scan which they thought they saw a vascular abnormality so then i was sent to have a MRI and they said it was normal.  18 hours later i was sent home with no answers.  My family doctor has came across this hemiplegic migraine and says that is what he thinks but because my blood pressure is so low he cant treat it with bloop pressure medication.  I am scared to death. I am only 30 years old.  And i have been out of work now for a month!  This is about to drive me crazy.  If anyone knows anything on this type of migraine please inform me on what i can do. Thanks alot!!!!

     Dear Dawn
Dont know wether I can be of any help, but I have Hemeplegic migraine too. I had all the tests you had but wasnt offered any treatment, but that was because of other problems, there definitely is treatment you can have.I have used alternative methods they have helped. It does get less scarey as time goes on, so dont give up.  Get in touch any time you want cause I know how fed up it can make you.
        Thinking of you Moth
PS Dont know wether you have had any blood tests but it is worth having some because there is a condition that makes you have either extra platelets or extra sticky platelets that can make con dition worse.

Hey Moth,
Thanks for the reply. They have done alot of blood work but i dont think they have check for that. I willask the guy in Atlanta Monday when we go. This is very aggravating. They have not let me work in a month because of the blackouts and thats driving me insane also. I just want all this to come to an end. I have 2 children of my own and 3 step children, and its not fair for them to see me this way. I am very active but this has changed me so much in this short of time.
What alternative methods have you tried that seems to help you? Right now I am willing to try almost everything. Thanks again for replying. Lets me know maybe there is help. I'll let you know what I find out tomorrow.

Hi Dawn
I know how dreadful it is and Im really sorry. When you see the guy in Atlanta on Monday ask if you can go on preventive medication. I know there are two drugs that you can have in the US but only one in the Uk. Not that makes any difference to me unfortunately. I have healing, hypnotherapy and accupuncture, they have all helped. So has removing varios things from my diet. Strangely enough I brought up two children of my own and three step children!

Liffy,
Well things went well in Atlanta. I tell you the doctor i saw really knew his stuff! He explained this throughly to me and my husband.  Long ride though!  mad    The guy put me on 4 new meds and tooks me off the other things that doctor had gave me.  They put me on an anti seziure med...effexor...medrol dose pack...and some other med.  Cant remember what it is.  Anyway lets hope and pray this works!
I am going to try and go back to work Thursday.  I have more blood work to determine what kind of migraine it is exactly and then have a thyoid scan done tomorrow.
Anyway how well did your step kids adapt to you being there?  Mine didnt to start with  sad but they are wonderful now! I couldnt ask for better step children.  They are more like my own other than step children.  Thanks for the replies.  Will keep you posted as I go along with all this!

Dear Dawn
So pleased to hear things went well. Love to know what the other medication is, maybe there might be something among them that my consultant would let me take. Interestingly I have Hypothroidism so maybe its connected in some way. Why did your doc check your thyroid?. My step kids are lovely too, though at first I had trouble but like you now they are like my own. Good luck with going back to work, I'll be thinking of you, let me know how it goes. I'm suffering this morning, my own fault I love plums but I know they bring on an attack.
