Hi, I am 41 years old and in the past month I have had headaches everyday.  My doctor contributes them to tension as I am having martial problems.  I am concerned in that I have never had many headaches before.  These headaches normally start at the back of my neck with stiffness in my shoulders and back.  By the end of the day, the pain has radiated straight down my spine to my encompass my enitre back.  I have had one afternoon of blurred vision which repaired itself once I took off my contacts.  I am a very active female with great eating habits. I guess I just want to make sure that this is normal in tension headaches.  I have no other symptoms except major stiffness in the neck, shoulders and back area and tightness throughout my head.  Thank you for listening to me and any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hi.  It does sound like you are getting tension headaches rather than migraines.  Posture exercises, breathing exercises and exercise should help you a lot.  Their is a book that I recommend.  The name is "Mind over Back Pain."  Even though the title refers to back pain, the subject is TMS.  A syndrome for holding tension in the body and manifest mostly in the back and neck/shoulders.  It certainly can't hurt to check it out.

Hope you feel better soon!

Thank you hopefulmigrainer.  I really that is all there is to it.  I have been doing a great deal of reading lately excercise and breathing techniques are quite big.  I am just frustrated that the stiffness in my neck is preventing me from doing some of my normal excercises.  Thanks again for your help.
Cheers

Hi Quinlyn,

Welcome to Healing Well. Yes, it sound as though what you have is classic tension headaches, and if things at home are not too good it's no wonder you are suffering. Have you explored relaxation tapes and excersises? I have found these to be helpful, swimming is another good one as it excersises all of the body stretching everything to enable you to relax easier!

Please let us know how you get on.

take care

Ann
