Hey everyone,

I'm new to the forum. I just signed up about 30 minutes ago. My sympathy goes out to all of you suffering with migraines. I am losing my mind. I have had migraines since before my teenage years but always classified it as a "Sinus Headache", well about 3 1/2 yrs ago I got a migaine and it has never gone away. So, I continue with daily migraines everyday, all day. Most recently I have been on 80 mg of Nadolol, 1000 mg of Depakote and 250 mg of Topamax now for a little over a 2 years now. I had some relief with Topamax but not much so my doctor continued to increase the dosage until I was up to 350 mg and self increased it to 450 mg a few weeks later for a couple of weeks with no relief. He took me back down to 250 mg because we were'nt seeing any results, he added 500 mg of depakote and then increased it to 1000 mg. I gave up on those meds because I was wasting a lot of money so I gradually came off all medicine about 2 months ago and now I'm just dealing with the sometimes unbearible pain. I only take rescue meds twice a week sometimes not at all for about two weeks so that I don't risk having rebound headaches. I'm setting up an appointment with a different Neuro dr. I've tried staying away from different foods but with no result. So, it's either something else or it's a large number of different foods, so I am thinking about going to an allergist for food testing. Any suggestions would be great.

Hi Preston,

Welcome to Healing Well. Sorry you have been suffering so much! The Doctor you are talking about is he/she a Neurologist who is a Headache Specialist? It may be better to see a Neuro who is a Headache Specialist!

It can be very difficult to find a specific trigger as each trigger doesn't always trigger an attack every time!! For instance, in general it is better that I avoid chocolate, but occasionally I can get away with some, but it may be that I have not had any in ages and I will have just a small piece and will get a bad attack!!!!

Then there are other triggers for me personally like alcohol and MSG that will trigger an attack every time!!! Each person is very individual in these things.

take care

Thanks Ann for the kind words. My present Neuro specializes in Headaches. The Neuro Dr. I'm going to see also specializes in Headaches. Thanks again.

Hi there Preston,
I'm new to this site myself. and for the last 5 months I have had a bad case of migraine. I've had migraines since I was 12 but last Oct seem to have hit me the worse. The neuro put me on topomax but did not work. I started at 25mg and stopped at 250 mg since I seemed to be getting worse and worse each day. I ended up haveing skin discoloration on my right hand and just now it seems to be clearing up. I have since switch docs and neuro and was told that because I tried so many meds. they would not be able to point out which med gave me that reaction. I just sarted 4 days ago a new med Butlbtl/apap/caff and can't seem to be getting any better. I am checking with my doc tomorrow morng because now I seemed to have sarted with stomach cramps, bloating and pain it can be from the new med. who knows. But I wish you the best take care
