I haven't heard of this med - is it for preventive or to abort a migraine that has already started?  Would love to now about it.

AngMichelle:

I have the prescription for the Lido NS but haven't had it filled yet.  I have to drive to a different town to a pharmacy that has it and I just haven't had the time. I was sorry, today, however that I hadn't gotten it - today has been horrid.  Started with a headache night before last, didn't medicate so woke up early yesterday morning in agony.  Took my meds then but then slept most of the day (which I couldn't afford to do since I had so much to do).  Then, I worked all night last night, slept about 4 hours this morning and woke up with a headache.  Tried to hold off all day without meds because I certainly couldn't afford to sleep the day away and by 3:00, I couldn't take it anymore.  I was afraid that I was on my way back to the ED and was sure wishing I had the Lido NS; however, I was able to abort it with Relpax, Prednisone and Dilaudid (2mg po).  Actually, today, the Relpax didn't zap me like it sometimes does.  I am at a loss.  I truly don't know what to watch for with the weather.  Any ideas?  I will let you know as soon as I try the Lido NS - am planning on getting it tomorrow.

Have a great Day!

Could you be talking about Naproxin?  It's an anti-inflammatory (I think it's in Aleve), like ibuprofen (Advil).  It's been prescribed to me by everyone I have seen about my migraines and TMJ.  I read that Imitrex works better and faster with it.  But there are warnings about it's long term effects on your liver.

I find it way too hard on my tummy, so I take ibuprofen instead and always take Zantac with that.

Warning - neither of those should be taken with aspirin.  So read the ingredients on your pain killers.  Mine, Fiorinol, contains aspirin.

Retiree, just wanted to update you on the Lidocaine NS - so far, not so great.  I think if my pain was in the front part of my head (my forehead), it would be great.  For me, however, my pain is behind one of my eyes (usually my left eye), in the center of my head.  For that, the numbing effect of the Lidocaine just doesn't seem to help.  It has been a frustrating week - you can read my (long) post about trouble getting a med refilled.  I am so frustrated and some days feel like everyone is looking at me like I am some kind of weirdo, just wanting meds.  What I want to scream to all of them is:  I would gladly trade the migraine pain, nausea, vomiting, exhaustion, etc. (and actually the fright of having it even when I don't have it) for never having to put another pill in my mouth for anything.  I guess I must be different than most - just as with alchol, I never get any kiind of good feeling from the meds (for years, I couldn't understand what was so great about drinking because all it ever did to me was make me sleepy - boy, was I a great date! ha!).  I get sleepy and grumpy from the meds, but never a "feel good" feeling.  So.......I will trade the meds for no pain anytime the offer comes up.  I will especially trade being looked at like and treated like I am scum of the earth wanting great meds.  I HATE IT!!!  Anyway, this is way more than you asked for but just needed to vent.

Hope you are having a great, headache free day!  Thanks for responding!
