does anyone go here? Who are your doctors? I went for my visit yesterday and told Dr Ashke**** that the naproxen sodium did nothing at all. He suggested I go to see the doctors at the Thomas Jefferson Pain Center who he deals with and sends his patients to.He said they will most likely try something like the lidocaine trigger point injections which Ialready had. But they take an x-ray and the anestesiologist puts the needle farther in. Right into the bone where he things the nerves are that are the problem. Some kind of nerve block. It may take three times if they dont hit the right place.I dont know all the details yet. I am waiting for them to call me and tell me when to come down. My doctor has to give them his notes from my last three visits and all my reports of my mri,x-rays, mra report mri of the c-spine and so on. I was reading that if all else fails they sometimes do surgery. I read it on the sight from the University of Michigan Headache Center. My eyes and nose hurt so much right now that I dont know what to do anymore. My scalp is also killing me. Yesterday was my birthday and I really didn't care at all.

Ashley, I really, really feel for you, because your condition sounds so much like mine, and I know how horrible I felt and how scared I was for the first 4 months, before I got any medication for it. I've read about people having the nerve block, and almost everything I've read says that it might help a little at first, but it doesn't last.
You mentioned in another post that you were going to a chiropractor - did that help at all? I'm considering that as my next step. During the 4 months when I was in so much pain, my husband kept wanting to massage my neck, but it hurt to touch any part of my head, so I wouldn't let him. I don't know if a chiropractor or massage therapist would have helped at the time. But later on, after my medication was helping so much, I had 2 sessions with a massage therapist, and that really helped a lot. Unfortunately, my insurance co. would rather pay for surgery when it gets so bad that there's no other choice, and they wouldn't pay for any more therapy!!! So now my husband massages my neck and head every day (for free!).
The Cymbalta that I've taken for 6 months took away every bit of the horrendous pain that I had - now some pain is there all the time, but it's usually not bad. But I want to find out the cause, fix it, and get off the medication. I'm sure the problem is the occipital nerves, but I don't know what the solution is.

Please keep writing - staying in touch with others through this is SO helpful. I think I would still be in unbearable pain if it were not for this board!!!

Praying for you, Nancy

By the way - Happy Belated Birthday!!!!!  I know exactly how you felt, because I was the same way on Christmas last year.  I bought frozen foods and a pre-cooked turkey (first time in 35 years of marriage!), had my daughter heat them up, and I spent the afternoon in bed.  And we couldn't even eat in the dining room, because I had put all the decorations on the dining room table to see what I had, then only had the strength to decorate with half of them - the rest stayed right there on the table until after Christmas.  Don't be discouraged - you WILL feel better, and next year's birthday will be a doozy!!!!
