Hello all,

I have not been diagnosed with MS. I don't even know if this is what I have. I had a MRI done 4 years ago and no lesions were seen. I saw a neurologist after a partial loss of vision in one eye( one part of my visual feild went grey for about 30 seconds), double vision(lasted a month or so) and tingling and numbness in one arm, hand and a few toes. Since then everything has gone away. The arm, toes and hand tingling is still there once in a while. Now I have a balance problem because of a form of dizziness. I feel as if I am on a boat at all times. This has been going on for almost a year. I saw a ENT and he thought it was a form of migraine so I took some medication for a few months and saw him again. Meds didn't work. He now thinks that it might not be due to a migraine. I am scheduled for a ENG next week. He said that he wants to see where the problems is situated. He mentioned something for a MRI but never scheduled me for one. Today, I have this weird tingling on top of my nose. Oh, I also had an episode where my eye would hurt if I moved it. I don't want to self-diagnose myself but do you believe that I have cause for concern?

Well, whatever it is, it IS cause for concern. But is it MS?  Well of course none of us here are doctors, and you're smart to not try to diagnose yourself. I think you're doing exactly the right thing to work with your doctor to test for and either discover or eliminate the cause(s) of your problems.  The eng will test for peripheral neuropathy -- some nerve problems in your extremities. An MRI will show what might be happening in your central nervous system. MRI's can change, by the way, over months. So the 4 year old MRI is pretty old, but might be useful for your neuro to see, if it's still available.

Good luck while you go through your testing!

Hey Nic

Welcome to the board. I"m so sorry for the reason u'r here, but glad u'r reaching out for answers and working with u'r doc to get things checked. As Uppity said, continue to do that. It's quite important to eliminate all possible causes before deciding on any one probability. Also, i agree with Uppity in that u'r smart not to try to self diagnose. That's a very scary thing to do. After all, u can look at many possible conditions/diseases and find u'r symptoms there. Many things mimic many illnesses...so keep u'r mind open and clear to just test...review the results with the doc and keep moving forward. Something u may want to do as u'r going thru this is to keep track of u'r symptoms...when they occur, what they are and how they feel, and how long they last. This can be such an insight to u'r condition for u'r doc. Also, as u'r having these tests run, get copies of the results/reports. Many times u can simply ask the facility doing the testing to also provide u with a copy, but if not u'r doc's office can and should provide u with copies. U can actually get films of u'r MRI's and/or the cd containing the images as well as the radiologists report. The reason for having these copies is that if u ever need to see a diff doc for any reason u can provide him/her copies of all this to either give him insight to u'r past condition or to possibly save repeating tests.

We have chat nights on Monday's here on the MS forum. We'd love to have u join us! Our chat time is each Monday at 6:00pm (cst). We usually post a reminder with instructions as to how to find the chat room. Please feel free to join anytime u can. Again, welcome to the board!

Hi all,

thanks for your replies. I am just a bit frustrated, that's all! I'll give you more news as soon as the tests results are in.

                   Sincerely,  Nicaribbean
