Ok I need fellow MSers to chime in here! Everyone tells me to read this book like it will cure me. It basically is all about the power of attraction and what we think/covet we will get. (ie we think we will be rich we WILL be rich) the reverse logic also being true we worry about money and the loss of then we will lose it. So do people actually think I can think myself healthy? That the lesions in my spine will disappear if I only have a positive attitude? Don't get me wrong a positive attitude is good I know that but I kind of think that all these "Secret" followers are telling me my negative thinking made me sick. Does this make any sense?? It really bugs me.... OK vent over!!

From my understanding of the book, which i have not read, its not so much about finances. Its about thnking what you want. Not speaking or allowing a negative commentary to run through our brans unnoticed as we do at times.

Good example would be, Gettin ready in mornings, wow if i didnt have these thighs, putting on mascara : wish mine were longer, i probably wont get this job im appying for etc.

Now can i tell u it works? no.

I can tell you that during the war morphine was not shipped one nite so they told the soldiers (using sugar pills) that it was morhpine, all soldiers but 1 required a second dose. The power of the mind might be more than we give it credit for. In otherwords the power of postive thinking and of suggestions to oneself of postive outcomes might also steer or motivat you to ACT upon these feelings that otherwise you wouldnt have, therefore making more likey even in percentage for them to take place.

Now, I read a book (christan) called Creative Healing that used this principle only you quote God's truths over your body. keeping in mind that a verse he tells us says boldy SUCH AS A MAN THINK SO HE BECOMES>

i do not agree with any book that is said to bring success as far as money or for that sole purpose. If you look at it from a medical standpoint our body does indeed release endrorphins that may be helpful in healing and in helping with a positive attitude which then might lead to better choices and better treatment of your body overall : thereby finding success in the things you seek.

I can in NO way tell you that this book (shown on oprah works) i will agree that some of the stories around it were very interesting. Would i bank my life on it? no way. Would i consdier using it to make my thoughts and life more positive: possibly.

The rest wil have to be answered by others. I choose to follow, such as a man thinks he becomes, and i think that is really a huge statement of either faith or lack of..but again,,,reminding one to choose positive rather than negative.

We all know, even doctors that the will to live will defy medicine. They admit readily that they cannot predict death to the T due to the will to live factor.

So , In my total conclusion, life is so much better from the positive aspect. Medically they suggest the same, your body releases great things to heal you when in that happy mental state..so why not?

I would abo****ely use caution if this book is merely a "how to get what i want" book.'
OH!! PLease allow me to vent also . this is not nor ever had been a secret! That is just a marketing approach, They tell you to create a vison board, pics of what you want to happen. Remember when (even now) weight liftes place pics of buff men up to help motivivate themselves? its the same principle.
Do i think it will CURE ms/ NO..do i think it could motivate you to exercise, eat better, mediate and find more funtion: possibly!

Hope you recieve better answers than mine

thanks

Because someone pushed this book on me, I actually did read it.  All it is, is a modern version of the old book "The Power of Positive Thinking".  Only THIS version is more "new age", "yuppie", and is indeed a "If you think you'll be rich, you WILL be rich!!" bunch of nonsense. And yes, people think that if you THINK away your illness, it will GO away.

Now, please do understand this: I DO think that individuals have control over their attitudes about life.  You can go through life convinced that everything bad has come your way, there is no way out of it, the bad things that happen are someone else's fault but you're blamed, you're the one that gets dumped on and so there's no way you'll manage ever to have a good life.....

or you can go through life taking responsibility for your actions (like, you can't change anyone else's behavior but you can change yours), having control over those things over which you can have control, and letting go of the rest (you can't totally control what MS is doing to your nervous system, but you can listen to your doctor, take your meds, follow the new advances and when something legitimately promising comes down the path find out about it and maybe try it, for example...)

Very simplistically, you can go through life thinking the cup is half full, and you're going to work to fill it...or that it's half empty, there's no way you can put anything more in the cup, and it's slowly going to drain away and you'll be left with nothing.

The book?  I threw it in the trash.

...I am not a doctor, nor health professional, and don't pretend to be one, here.....

Oh GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR don't even get me started on that piece of trash.  I read it and I also threw it in the trash.  Not only did that book say that if you think it and truly believe it, it will happen, it also says that everything that has already happened to you, you called to yourself by sending out those signals.  The basic premis of the book is that the universe will basically radiate back to you your own thoughts.  If you believe that, then you must beleive that you caused your own illness by sending out the signal that caused the universe to bounce this back to you in the form of illness.  OH this just makes me so mad!!!!!!  So a tiny innocent toddler that develops cancer did this to himself???? Please???? Oh but the book says that people don't know that that is what they are sending out to the universe so that is why seemingly innocent people get sick and other such rot.

I am a firm believer in positive thinking and postive attitude. I have have always seen the glass as mostly full even when I have accidentally dropped that glass on the floor and it is shattered.  Oh don't get me wrong, I get down like the everyone does, but I have found more strength in me and my friends and loved ones than I could ever hope for.  I don't stay down for long.

Do not put any faith in that book.  It is a money making project for the author.

Teresa,

It is so good to see you here.  How are you doing??  Tell us every little thing, and forget that book.  When someone says that that book will cure you, tell them it is to big too swallow or inject.

Love and prayers,

Thanks! It is nice to know that fellow MSers get my annoyance. Gretchen my thoughts immediately went to the thought of children getting sick. They don't bring that on themselves with negative thoughts!! I am a positive thinker but I get down and I hate to think that that is what caused my MS! I feel like it is so ignorant of people to tell me to read this book to help me get better. I want to say "I take avonex to slow the progression of MS  but until there is a cure I'm not going to get rid of it so go jump!" but I say "thanks for the tip." UGH!

Gretchen I am doing good. Tired a lot and having some muscle issues that I am on valium for at the moment but otherwise I can't complain. My hubby has been very ill and we don't know what is causing it so I am a little stressed but we will figure it out. How are you? How is school??

Teresa,

You said it just perfectly.  Tell them what you are doing for progression.  Tell them it is ignorant to think that thinking will lead to a cure.

I am sorry to hear of your fatigue.  I am so sorry to hear about your husband.  How is that baby girl????

School is great.  I have one of the nicest classes I have ever had.  I love my job.  It is such a blessing for me to get to work with them.  They are so fun.  It keeps my mind off of me.  I have been teaching an early morning reading class on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  That has been crazy.  It starts at 7:30 in the morning and when I get there at about 7:20 there are students waiting for me.

Keep us posted.  We want to know how you are.

love and prayers,

I haven't read the book, so I can't really comment too much on it. But, I was wondering, does it really suggest to just believe and think positivley about what you want(happiness and healthiness, etc) and not actually do anything to help yourself achieve it? If so, that is just crazy. I'm a big believer in positive thinking and the power of prayer, but you still need to stick to your treatment and take steps to help yourself.
