Had a horrible week last week with my semi-new Family Doctor, they were supposed to give me a referral , they did some bloodwork to see if I was low in B 12.. All week they never sent in my referral for the neurologist.. I finally called and they said they hadnt done it yet! SO I went to a new Family Doc and he set up my appointment with the Neurologist in less than 12 hours!!!!  What will a nerve conduction test do or tell you? thanks in advance.. Lizza

It depends on what kind of nerve conduction test you're scheduled for.  Some test the peripheral nervous system: whether the nerves in your limbs are working properly, are transmitting signals from the limbs to the spinal cord (and then to the brain).  Other nerve conduction tests will test the central nervous system...whether signals are being properly transmitted from brain to spinal cord, and then to the rest of the body.

If there is a problem with the peripheral nervous system, it's not likely to be caused by having MS.  If there is a problem with the central nervous system, MS is one candidate for the cause.

And as for your first doctor...it could be that they were waiting on the results of the bloodwork before they referred you to a neuro. There are lots of causes for symptoms that could "look like MS", a vitamin B12 deficiency among them. They might have wanted to see if that was the cause before sending you somewhere else.

hey lizza...the same thing happened to me as far as the doctors go only my fiasco went on for months. Push those docs to do the right thing. I don't know anything about a nerve conduction test though...I was never told about one or given one. Let us know how it goes. I am new to this site but if you want to talk i am here eyes
