Hey everyone,

I started taking yoga about two weeks ago.  I signed up with a yoga center and I am now taking yoga 3 times a week for an hour each session.  I am loving it!!!!!  I too was at the place where I wanted a bit more exercise and I was considering pilates or yoga.  I finally chose yoga because of the meditation that is usually included.  I wanted to do something about my stress level.  I have heard that yoga really centers on the mind/body connection and can be a great stress buster.

I am a christian.  I do not find yoga to be counter to that at all.  When our teacher talks about spirituality, for me that means Christ centered meditation.  Other than that, we do a lot of stretching, some strength training and tons and tons of breathing!!!!  I had no idea that breathing could be so exhausting.  I walk away from my class totally relaxed.  It is very similar to a full body massage.  I am so excited to find something that takes my head away from everything.  I am completely recharged after class.  I am also already feeling the physical benefits.  I am less spastic in my bad left leg.  I am a bit more flexible after just two weeks.

Love and prayers,

I think this is awesome. I really need to get serious about some exercise, and look in to where some classes might be offered around here. I hope this continues to do good things for you!

Good for you!!!!!! Our family doctor told us, to take meditation classes..(The closest ones are an hour away), Or to try yoga, when hes up to it.His beliefs are that you need to connect your mind & body to your spirit. When you achieve this, you may receive more healing to your body. Also he said that in his county they use prayer beads.(kinda like a rosary) and you focus 20 minutes in quiet surrounding..slowly.roll the beads thru your fingers and say just one word...of your choice ..it may be Jesus..Jesus etc......Its a form of meditation......They have done studies he says that after a few months, 3 to be exact, you will feel more spiritually connected..We use a rosary.
As soon as the weather breaks. I will try to get my son to yoga..Snow dropped 8 inches last night!

Sounds great Gretchen, I'm in uppity's boat though, trying to get serious about a regular regimen and figure out which one I'm gonna finally commit too... time is critical for me so it'd have to something I cna do at home... I've got yoga and pilates tapes and figure I'll probably try to do one of those soon... but it's good to hear progress!

I have an extremely stressful and sad situation I am dealing with right now.  I am so happy to have this yoga as my escape.  It has helped so much with my stress level.  I know that no matter how bad things are right now, I am going to get my mind off of it for an hour, three times a week.

I know I could probably to that on my own with some quiet time or prayer but I am just not that disciplined.  It is so wonderful to go to that class and just listen to the teacher and work on breathing, stretching and quieting my busy busy mind.

Thanks for all the positive responses.  I appreciate it so much.

Love and prayers,

I have that seated yoga video also, it's just great.  It's called Chair Yoga.  You can get it at www.chairdancing.com.  I have also seen it at overstock, amazon and several other places.  There are several chair videos available at the above web address, I have 3 of the them.

Gentle hugs,
