Ok, now i don't know if I'm to be frustrated or furious or just keep waiting... my neuro's office called, made me a followup appt for May 23 with him... said the MRI's were nothing abnormal... 'course he's the kind of doc who'd come back at me that they were "normal" for MS, showing him what he wanted and not tell the nurse squat. So be it... in the meantime, 6 wks out of any appt time... he's one busy busy neuro.  Then again by that time another symptom may pop up or get worst too!

The flipside is that I"m wondering what do I do if he says there's no lesions? Anyone here have experience with having MS without showing lesions on MRI's? He's concluded MS TWICE with me now over the past two years but may not be able to detect a lesion.  I've read that about 1-5% of the MS population doesn't show lesions on MRI's... sort of sucks though cos it keeps the dx in a state of wondering what's up... nothing else is panning out though, not Lyme, not peripheal disease, not diabetes, not the whole host of a dozen other things he tested me for.

I really hate the waiting game ... in the meantime, I still stumble, everything still goes numb, vision still blurs, headaches still keep happening, pains still shoot thru various areas of my body, the room moves when I don't, and the rest of the list keeps happening like clockwork... patience. Man it's my lousiest virtue!

Hey Deb

Wow...i'm sorry...i hate the waiting game too, but it does sound like u'r doc is on top of things with the rechecks with new mri's. Six weeks is a long time when u'r dealing with all u'r symptoms...wow!...but hang in there friend. It'll go faster then u think. In the meantime try to manage u'r symptoms as best u can and don't forget to just live, ok? As much as u can that is. Boy u have a lot going on! Take good care friend and let us know how u are and what that doc says.

Hey Deb,

I am so sorry your results were so vague.  I personally don't know of anyone that has MS that does not have lesions, but I am not a doctor.  It seems reasonable to think that lesions can be small enough to not show up on an MRI.  I have read that if someone is diagnosed with MS and lesions don't show up in the first 24 months that the diagnosis should be revisitied but again, that is just something I read.

It is really hard to have all these symptoms and no definitive answers.  It seems as if you have faith in your Doctor or I would recommend a second opinion.  When I had my MRI and it showed lesions, I was referred for a second opinion by the neuro that I was seeing at the time.  I am grasping as straws here, sorry I am trying to be helpful but not doing a great job.

Hang in there and keep posting.  Let us know how you are doing.

Love and prayers,

Oh hey I thought of one more thing.  Have you ever had a lumbar puncture?  That can be used in all sorts of ways.  My lumbar puncture was tested six ways to Sunday even though they already suspected MS due to the lesions.  My lumbar puncture ruled out everything and clearly showed the oligoclonal bands that are indicative of MS.  Just a thought.

Love and prayers,

Thanks everyone... actually I have a feeling he's gonna go with the LP next visit. He seems very interested in the "meningitis" attack I had in 2002 that wasn't totally conclusive but no one thought to call him in on til long after the fact and I had double vision issues for a month, then suddenly cleared up.

I do have great faith in him as he's a "digger" and doesn't like to be beat by any disease. That's his rep in our area, part of his  nature is to get to the bottom of everything and he's caught things about me I didn't even realize were happening. So we shall see... not finding a lesion on the MRI will drive him nuts though.

The nice thing about coming here though is you've all given me lots of tips on dealing with the symptoms and I'm finding I'm not "complaining" so much with hubby so I can just deal with them cos they're not so unexpected now. MS is obviously a complex disease, I'd rather treat it proactively than get slammed ignorantly later on down the road!

Thankyou all!

I'm sorry you have to go through the waiting thing for yet another 6 weeks. Do continue to keep track of any new symptoms, and of course tell him about that when you see him next. I do think lp's can tell a lot, particularly when nothing seems to be showing up on the MRI. I'm sure you'll keep us posted.

Hi Deb,

Waiting and wondering can definitely be very scary and frustrating. I’m really glad that you have a great neuro who will keep searching for a dx for you though. I hope your upcoming appointment leads to some answers and treatment.

Thank you all for the encouragement. I'm just gonna hang in there. And definitely Uppity, he gets my "list" and questions requesting the whys? :)  He keeps coming back to the same conclusion so I'll wait.
