Hi guys, I need your advice. Many of you know that for 4 months I have had random pulsatig pains around my body-mainly toes, feet, ankle, fingers. I woke up one day and bam--pain. Also extreme joint cracking and feet that would buzz on and off. Now on top of that I have non stop muscle twitches- I mean NON STOP for a month. It is important to note I have had pressure behind my eyes on and off (thought it was from using revitalash) about 2 months before this started.

I had an MRI of head, mid spine, and lower spine WITHOUT contrast, it was fine. I had one with contrast 1.5 yrs ago of my head and it was fine.

If one were to have seemingly MS symptoms, would it show up on an MRI wout contrast?

What should my next step be? I know I have asked before, but my mind is going nutty with all of this--does this sound like MS?

I did try the (as my dr had asked me) put my chin to my chest and I dont get pain but a little buzz feeling in my left thigh- today was the first time I noticed.

I dont know what I should do next and if this is MS or just symptoms of depression/anxiety from the loss of my dad. I have been one to be more of a hypocondriac in the past.

Hi King and welcome! If I were you I would find a Neuro Doc and get another opinion, maybe one who specializes in MS? From what I know and read MS lesions may not always show up right away on MRI's. All the MRI's I had were with contrast. I am no Doctor but you should get checked out. Theres alot of other tests that are run to rule on MS ( mostly to rule out other things).

Has your Doc said MS is a possibility? MS mimics lots of other diseases and thats why it takes so long to get diagnosed w/it. Don't give up searching. You may also want to check out the MS Society website. Lots of good info there to look at and it may even help direct what your next move should be. But I'm sure everyone in this forum would agree that your welcome here as long as you need us. Theres many in here who have symptoms but are in limbo yet with the diagnosis ( and most likley do have MS). Good luck to you and let us know how you fair. turn

Having a clear MRI is a very good sign that you do not have MS.  The contrast only shows active lesions.  Lesions will still show up without contrast, it will just be harder to know if they are old lesions or active.  It is quite rare to get an MS diagnosis without lesions.  That is what multiple (many) sclerosis (scars) is referring to.  When a doctor does diagnose MS without lesions, those lesions are carefully watched for, for the next few years.  If those lesions don't show up, then the initial diagnosis is usally questioned.

Thanks for your feedback. Should I get my cervical spine checked too? Its like I woke up one day and bam--pulsating pains all over my body that jump around from a second to hours, then the EXTREME joint cracks and vibration and now non stop twitching. I am scared, and feel helpless as I dont know what is wrong and this is consuming my life.

Katie mentioned that I could have MS and it would not show on the MRI in terms of lesions. Could I have such strong symptoms and it not show anything? That makes me feel even more helpless.

I am also rechecking my thryoid since thyroid issues run in my family

Thank you so much

This may help.  It clearly states that some may be diagnosed without lesions.  You must have two clinically seperate exacerbations.  Again, it is very rare.  That is also stated in this article.  Most people with a definitive diagnosis of MS have lesion activity that shows on an MRI.

Good luck.  I hope you feel better soon.
