Hi guys I am back, and have a few questions. My MRI (NO contrast) of head, mid and lower spine came back clear as did my nerve study. I asked my dr if we should have done an MRI wout contrast he said no, that they only do they when they see lesions and that lesions do show up without contrast if there are any---I have been told this several times. Well, then I asked him to do my C spine, so I get that done Monday. If that comes back clear he said if I want we can do a LP but that if the LP shows swelling he cannot dx me with MS based off that without lesios--I guess whats the point other than to upset me more...

So I have a question re MS. Do MS pains move around quickly? My pain started in my ankle one day, it was a pulsating pain that I thought I twisted my ankle, the next day it was fine. The day after it was my other foot, toes included it felt like it was being crushed-1 hr later it was fine. Then the next day it was back to my left ankle, just a couple jabs of pain to it. Then it was my fingers (or one), spine, etc.. It like I woke up one day and had this pain that started to jump around all over my body at different parts of the day. I noticed at the onset EXTREME joint cracking, still have that too. Also of course my feet buzz or vibrate from time to time. Now the most scary is that I get non stop muscle twitches everyday for a month. I have also felt I have been bumping into things more.... I have had all my vitamins aside from B6 checked, loads of other testst too...

My question is does MS pain sound like mine?  I have been so depressed with the what ifs lately, I go from thinking a tumor to ALS to MS, and its just hard not knowing. My drs say may be stress as it all started after my dad got sick but I dont think stress can cause nerve type issues or joint crakcing everywhere.

Any feedback (or reassurance!) would be great.

Hey King

I'm so sorry u'r in limbo. The good thing is that the tests are coming back clear. I know the unknown can be pretty tough tho. Stress CAN cause all sorts of things to happen in u'r body. Yes, physical problems. I can't say the joint cracking is one, but given that u'r ultra sensitive to things happening with u right now, maybe u'r noticing more of that than u normally would be. Stress/anxiety can cause lots of pains and lead u to believe u are suffering some horrible, dreaded disease. Try to be calm and let this go a bit. Try not to do any research for awhile. Give u'rself a break and maybe u'r body will calm down a bit too. I can tell u for sure, worry CAN make u sick. Take a break and get back to just living life for awhile. Take care friend.

thanks so much. I did hear though that tests, MRI's can come back clear and one can still have MS. I have been in tears today. For example, last night my right foot was vibrating and I kept getting a pulsating pain at the bottom side of my foot. Today I was getting the pain there and now its on my knuckle on my right hand. I am just fearful I have MS but wont know it if tests come back clear...

I am sorry you are having such a rough time right now. I feel really terrible about that.  I am concerned though that you are identifying so strongly with MS.  I know you did some research and you see some symptoms you relate to but you have some symptoms that are really not very MS ish as well.  The extreme joint cracking you have mentioned is not something that seems like MS.  The pain that travels from spot to spot is unusual too.  My pain is related to a lesion on my spine and that pain is pretty much in the same place when I am experiencing it.

It is really rare for a clean MRI to still mean MS.  I wish so much you could feel good about that.  I am afraid that if you obsess about MS, you are going to overlook something that could be quickly or easily treated.

I have seen that you have posted on other forums here at HW.  In one of those, you mentioned that perhaps you were spending too much time on MS, ALS and other sites.  You have a good head on your shoulders.  You see that your time on the internet my be causing even more stress and anxiety.

You are always welcome here.  You can vent and share your diagnostic journey as much as you would like.  Please keep looking in all directions though.  Good luck!

Here is another thought.  I know you have in your signature that you tested negative for RA but I have heard that about half the people diagnosed with RA never have a postive titre for it.  Just something to consider.  I keep thinking about the cracking joints.

Thanks so much. Everyone on this site is so supportive and friendly, not sure what we would all do without a forum like this!

I know, I definitely have obsessed over ALS, MS, brain cancer, etc... Its hard not too when I dont have a dx. I think you are right, I need to stop the excessive research and let my drs do the job, but its hard....

Thanks again..

Dear King,
I agree with all that Gretchen & Rhonda say & think they are so great & supportive. Be very happy with the clear tests & enjoy your days as much as you can. I have had a lot of differant pains & most are re occurring in the same place & same intensity. The only ones that sound a little like yours are ones that are very intense, & brief, like a wasp sting. I had such continuous and severe spasms (beyond 10/10) that I now have a baclofen pump which has been miraculous and nearly all pain has gone (spasms, skin pain, & most of the wasps). When I was in hospital geting the pump implanted a young (28) woman was admitted with 10/10 pain down entire left side. Initially drs tested for MS but later dx Pain Syndrome (her body reacted to a fall & fracture). Strongest meds only gave her slight relief & the drs said the only thing that would help was EXERCISE & time?? I spoke to her after a few months of physio 3X a day & she said pain was dow to 3/10. I do not know if that helps but the body certainly works in strange & mysterious ways. Love & light.

Popsie,

I am so glad to hear that your baclofen pump is working.  That is such good news and offers such hope to others.  Thanks for posting.

Thank you all for your responses, what a great board. I have had non stop fascilations for over a month, even when I sleep--I wake up to roll over or get water and still have them. Are spasms and fascilations somewhat similiar with MS?

I go in for my C spine MRI late this afternoon......
