I read an article that said results of tests on rats show that caffeine prevented MS. Has not been tried on humans yet & I just wondered if there were any big coffee drinkers out there that had any comments? Does anyone find coffee improve symptoms? I do not drink it much as it seems to negatively impact on my bladder.

Further to what I said earlier I wanted to add that I have a really big day once a week when I am out from 10am until 4pm going first to meditation then lunch then shopping for 2-3 hrs & although I drink water & fruit juice all day the one thing I crave is when I am shopping in the after noon I have an iced coffee from supermarket. Yes,it gives me a pick up to keep going and I always thought it was the sugar. Now having read this research I am not so sure. Maybe its the coffee too & also in this form it does not seem to negatively affect the bladder. Wondered if anyone else had noticed something similar? smilewinkgrin

This is an interesting thread to think about.  One thing you have to consider though is that we are not talking humans or MS.  We are talking mice and a disease similar to MS.  The other thing is they are talking about how it prevented that MS-like disease in mice.  It is not considered a treatment.  Now a lot of people fine that drinking a lot of coffee is very helpful in staving off the effects of MS fatigue.  The way you are using it, it makes sense.

Ok here is a bit more on that study.  It is very interesting.  Don't run out and drink a bunch of coffee quite yet though smilewinkgrin .

Thanks Gretchen,
Thats exactly the study I had read and of course, you are right, it is discussing mice not humans & only MS like disease. But I will now have my iced coffee without feeling guilty cos it does seem to help me get thru that last tiring part of the day and it might also actually be good for me. smilewinkgrin smilewinkgrin

Hey Rhonda,
Perhaps YOU are the living human proof of the efficacy of caffeine. And you DON'T have MS!! I often read of the benefits of caffeine (& the bad things too) but can't say I have ever read anything good about coke!? turn

Just last night my hubby asked me why I was drinking coffee so much in the afternoon and evenings. I'm normally just an a.m. drinker. I told him that I'm mentally and physically exhausted and its helping me make it through the day. He just smiled at me and said oh.

I'm not diagnosed but going through the process....again.
