Hi. I am new to this board.  I have been dealing with symptoms similar  to those of MS.  Have been searching for an answer for a year.  My family doctor has been good  about listening to my complaints (usually one complaint per visit, but I convinced him that I thought they were all related to one another!).  He sent me to a neurologist and have been in her care for many months and we are  still searching for answers.  I have a follow up with her next week for the results of  extensive  blood  work, evolked potentials and  second  MRI (first one was clear!!!!).....  My symptoms include blurry  vision, vertigo, stabbing/buring pain in groin (90% of the  time)...pain in knees,  lose of balance,  loss of bladder and bowel control, muscle  spasms in hands, extreme fatigue in afternoon, and  probably the most bothersome is the numbness/tingling in hands and feet, honestly,  it  feels like someone has plugged them into an electrical  socket.... I will be glad when they have an answer for me so I can  deal with it, the  worse thing about this is not knowing what is causing these symptoms.  Other than a  hysterectomy  2 years ago, I have been  healthy.  I just turned 50,  and i thougth MS showed up between 20 and 40?????  Any feed back would be appreciated.

Bread Winner,

I don't know if you realize it, but you are very lucky to have doctors that are taking you seriously and working to diagnose you. One thing I would like to mention, you did not say what kind of MRI results you are waiting for, but it is important to scan both the brain and the spine. I was investigated fairly early on for MS, but when my brain MRI was clean I was dismissed. Two years later I had a spinal MRI, which showed lesions and led to my diagnosis.

As far as your age goes, MS has never been shown to fit nicely into a box, so I wouldn't expect it to start now.  :-)  A lot of your symptoms could be related to MS, but they could also be caused by something else, so be patient, and I hope you get it figured out soon.

I had a brain MRI first, this  past week I had one on my neck!!!  I didn't ask why (should have) will lesions show up on it or were  they looking for something  else???? .. I think the  next test will be a spinal tap......

Yes, lesions can show up on any part of your spinal cord as well as your brain.

Hey Bread Winner,

Welcome to the board.  I am sorry you are not feeling well.  I do hope you get some answers soon.  It sounds like you have a team of aggressive doctors that are looking hard for those answers.  Below is a great link to a site which talks about the diagnostic process of MS.  It discusses the tests you have mentioned.  Good luck.......obviously I hope you don't have MS and instead have something very easily treatable.  Let us know when you know anything.
