Hope im doing this right, but i need answers and im really hoping someone can help. for the last 2 weeks ive been having "spells"....arm getting numb and tingly, feeling of dreaminess, trouble walking and slurred speech, this things happen in "spurts"....hospital said STROKE, but MRI showed lesions. My doc was unwilling to answer many questions, but said "probably ms and we will refer you to a neuro"...problem is, when i read the MRI report, it kinda sounds like "hey, this chic has 20 lesions, but none are active"...which makes me think, hmmmm....if none are active, why am i having so many sypmtoms and why now? I was hoping if i posted some of this lingo from the Mri on here, someone could help me understand it, so here it is, and im sorry for all the "junk", just nervous, i have 5 girls, and im a photographer and hard to wait to have the neuro explain all this lingo...
"Greater than 20 supratentorial rounded areas of high signal intensity measuring 5-7 mm are seen predominantly scattered throughout the subcortical white matter of the frontal and parietal lobes bilaterally.  Three of these are in a periventricular location. None of the white matter lesions are juxtacortical in locatin. None of these lesions demonstrate mass effect or enhancement. No posterior fossa lesions are identified. The ventricles and sulci are normal in size and position without midline shift or mass effect. None of the white matter lesions demonstrate decreased signal intensity on the spin echo T1 weighted images precontrast."

kelly,

The best I can give you it this: bilaterally means that the lesions are on both sides of the brain. without midline shift is a good thing. My old neuro told me that means that both sides of the brain are the right size and both the same size and in the right place.

frontal, parietal, periventricular, juxtacortical posterior fossa, ventricles and sulci are all different areas of the brain. But as for the rest of it, I can't help ya much. I don't understand much of what the reports say. I tell my doctor to dumb it down for me. Otherwise, I can't be effective in my treatment plans and decision making for my meds.

Try not to stress yourself out TOO much. I know you'll stress until you get it explained to you so that you can understand, but don't obsess over it. The stress can only make you feel worse than you already do.

thank you Heather, i guess its just bothering me that this MRI seems to say that my lesions are old, so why am i just now having symptoms? and daily "spells" also, just makes no sense to me.

You may have been having symptoms and just didn't realize that you were. The spells, I have a different type of spell. Mine are bouts of extreme fatigue numbness in my fingers and feet, and light-headed or dizzy spells. I don't pretend to know what's wrong with you.

I can't even tell you what's wrong with me right now. The best way to deal is to wait for your appointment with the neuro. Save yourself some stress and DON'T do research on the medical junk in the report.

yup..i am a high energy person.....ive been unrealistically tired, and i get the dizzy spells also. it is hard to not know what this Mri is saying despite what doc says. it is hard to not research it , luckily i have some weddings to photograph coming up soon. Doc said he is trying to get me into the neuro "pronto"...will find out tom. I also have Hashimotos disease, which is a pain, and sleep apnea, yay, just an array of problems, hehehe

Kelly,

Keeping yourself busy can be a good thing. Just try to not over do.  At least keep your mind busy so that you don't have time to obsess over the neuro appointment.

Did you hear when your going?  You need to let us know how that goes? And what it means too? hehehehehe!!!
