hi all!

has anyone ever had a burning sensation under the skin?  it feels sort of like a sunburn, tho there is no mark, no burn, just hurts like one.  i keep getting them, on the backs of my legs, on my face, or on my arms.  is this a symptom of ms?

due to a job change, i can't go to an ms specialist for at least another three months. :(

hugs to all

I had burning sensations in November. I could feel most of the burning in my truck area. It was such a wierd feeling. I didn't even want my spouse touching me because the burning would increase. I also had numbness to half my body at the time. It was a MS flare.

It took about 3 weeks to go away. I didn't get any medication for it. But I was not diagnosed with MS at the time.

I hope it you get some relief soon.

Hi Stephanie,  I too get a burning sensation on the bottom of my left foot and left arm.  Sometimes it is more intense than others and sometimes it isnt even there at all...weird what is going on in our bodies.  I have lots of sensation problems like this also, numbness, tingling, vibrating...sometimes it gets to where I cant stand to have certain types of material on (clothing) and people touching me hurts or causes discomfort.  There are meds to help or lessen this feeling.  Good luck with the MS specialist.  I hope you start to feeling better real soon..take care

Hi Stephanie,

Yes a burning sensation can occur in MS. It's a sensory problem that some people have. Mike has this feeling in his arms, legs, and spine and like Els, clothing against the skin and touching makes it worse. I hope that it is a temporary problem for you and goes away but if not, perhaps your PCP can suggest a medication for you to help til you can get into the specialist. Best of luck, I hope you feel better soon.

Stephanie,
The last 2 days I have felt like a hot poker was in my upper back by my scapula...never had it before, I guess it goes along with the MS!!!

Hey Steph!

I've felt some of what u'r talking about, tho only in small spots on my arms and hands and sometimes on the tops of my feet. It only lasts a short time...less than an hour..and only in small spots...size of a dollar bill or less. Mine usually happens within a few days of some other worsening of some symptom. Like Elisha said...weird what happens with our bodies!

hi all,

i just wanted to let you know that the burning started again today.  i have read your posts on this thread and am glad to know that i am not losing my mind, like my husband thought.  i have never heard of this before, and can't find anything on it on the web anywhere about this being a symptom of ms.  i have re read the three books i have, and neither of the authors discusses it.  obviously, this is a symptom of this disease, and more research needs to be done.  i am a member of the nat ms soc, and have recieved several newsletters from them, none of which mention this strange burning sensation either.  i have talked to many people and have learned that they have not had this symptom, and they are not diagnosed with ms, so yes virginia, the burning sensation is a symptom of ms.

god bless and good luck

Hi everyone,

If you are wanting to learn more about this burning sensation, just do a search for Pain and MS. You'll find a lot of information on the subject and what might help.
