Hi,
I was wondering what particular blood tests would be ordered to check for MS. I plan on insisting on more testing due to alot of symptoms I have been having lately, but couldn't find anywhere what kind of blood tests are done.
Tks for your help with this. Take care all.

There are no blood tests done to diagnose MS.

Rather, the blood tests are done to determine if there is some other cause(s) for various symptoms.

Many diseases and disorders look alike from the outside.  They share symptoms.  Lots of things can be mistaken for MS. So doctors generally do blood tests to rule out things like infections in the body, or rheumatological disorders, or thyroid, diabetes, stuff like that.  If they find those kinds of issues, then there are treatments for some of those problems.  If they don't -- then they'll look even more closely at things like MS.  With all the things you say you've already been diagnosed with, I'd guess that the doctors you're seeing have already run all the appropriate blood testing, to come to those diagnoses.

...I am not a doctor, nor health professional, and don't pretend to be one, here.....

Hi Babs,

Unfortunately there are no blood tests for MS. If you want to insist on further testing you can ask about getting a repeat MRI done as I think you said it's been about a year since your last one. They can compare them to see if there have been any changes. Other tests for MS include evoked potential tests, which tests the length of time it takes for signals to reach the brain, and the lumbar puncture which tests the spinal fluid for antibodies. Neurological exams can also give some info over time to see if things like balance, coordination, etc are getting worse over time.
Good luck, let us know what you find out.

Kimber
