And it is soooo nice to see Babs back...we missed you soooo much.
it just has been a very difficult summer for me, I have a question about swelling of the feet and hands..this has been happening to me for the past few days to the point that I can't put my sandles on or take my rings off, is this a part o my M.S.?? also for the past few days I have been tingling in my mouth..well more like my tonge and I have been biting my tonge and inside of my cheecks and not noticing it because of the numbness.....can I say.....I HATE M.S.!!
but I love you all.

Welcome back Annie,
Sorry I missed your post!  I'm glad you have returned, I'm sorry about the swelling.  I don't know of a direct link to MS from that.  Are you retaining fluids due to high bp or one of your meds cause swelling.  Also, just an increase in your salt intake and heat can cause swelling.  Be sure to let your doc know.

Take care, please keep us posted! :-)

Thanks Shelly,

I don't think my BP is high and I stay away from salt. I do plan on letting my Dr know about this swelling.
Thank You for welcoming me back...it really is nice to be back.

Hey Annie!

HAHAHA...WELCOME BACK!!! I don't know if we've posted to each other in the past or not, but I'm still in limbo land and don't have any info that would likely help u on the swelling. My thoughts were along the lines of Michelle...bp and salt intake.

On the tingling tongue. Yes, mine has done that many times, tho not for long at a time. Really only seconds. My tongue and inside of my mouth have been numb as well as the inside of my throat (that's a scary feeling!), so i can certainly relate to ur symptoms. Since i'm not dx with ms i can't say it's ms for me, but as i understand that kind of numbness in general is a ms symptom. I haven't seen any posts or otherwise information about swelling related to ms, but maybe someone else here has and will jump in and let u know their experiences. Best wishes to u and again, welcome back. :)

Hi Annie,

It's good to see you back! I'm sorry you are having problems with swelling. Other than what the other ladies mentioned the only thing that comes to mind is arthritis. I've never heard of swelling occuring with MS itself. Hope you get some relief and figure out the cause!

Mike has never experienced the numbness in the mouth, but I have heard of others describing that sensation, be careful chewing! Make sure you mention all of this to your doc if you havent already, take care of yourself!

Hello, Annie. Usually swelling in your feet and ankles and hands is a fluid retention problem...it settles in the lower extremities. I think it's pretty common in folks who don't move around as much, as the walking and other movement is what keeps the fluids moving in the body. I don't think that there is any specific link to MS, except that some of us with MS don't walk, or don't walk as much, and so are more likely to have to deal with this.

The usual suggestion from a doctor is to elevate your feet as much as possible, getting them at least level with, or higher than, your head, and of course to walk as much as possible. Sometimes they'll prescribe diuretics if it is particularly troublesome, but those can be a challenge for folks with MS who also have bladder problems.
...I am not a doctor, nor health professional, and don't pretend to be one, here.....
