GP is now sending me to a large hospital for my hypertension and neurology. Bp was 170/100 pulse 105 yesterday. Took in a list of my symptoms but I don't think she was really listening.
Discussed MRI of spine but if she orders it I will have to pay $600.00AUD. If a Specialist orders it the Government pays so I will have to wait until I get into the clinic at the hospital. Maybe they will take a little bit more notice of my symptoms.

My Neuro sent a letter to her but just said that the lp was normal and he will see me again in February. So what am I supposed to do? Very frustrating. Anyway, hope the hospital is a little more thorough and listens to me. She asks me if I'm depressed and this could be the cause of my memory problems. At the end of the consult she did admit that I could still have ms with a clear lp so hopefully she will give my treatment a bit more thought. I had a heat wave while in her office so she saw my face go bright red! Pins and Needles are worse this week, feels terrible. Otherwise I'm ok except for my facial pain, heat waves and poor memory. I bought two lots of oil this week from two different supermarkets on the same day. Forgot what day my appointment was yesterday so had to ring the surgery. They had rung me on Friday but I had forgotten!!!

Have a good day all,

Cocoa

Your description here of the "heat wave" definitely sounds like it could be a hot flash, a sign of menopause, and you are of the "right age" for that to be happening. Hormone flucuations during that time can cause all sorts of odd symptoms to occur, including memory problems, blood pressure problems, other stuff.  Presumably your doctor is checking or has checked you for that, although very often blood tests come back normal, when in fact you are dealing with menopause. They did for me.

Are you having any problems with your monthly cycle, like missing a cycle, or unusually heavy bleeding, or sporadic bleeding, or anything like that?  Those would all be indications that you're moving through menopause, too.

Usually when I suffer an MS-related overheating, I clearly have been in a phyical situation where it is hot, like outside in the sun, or in a closed room with limited circulation....not in ordinary circumstances in an office...

...I am not a doctor, nor health professional, and don't pretend to be one, here.....

Hi Uppity and ta for your input.

I ceased any periods about 2 years ago. My GP isn't tying menopause to my blood presssure as I have had high BP for some time prior to the change, although this may be contributing to it. It is a bit of a catch 22 as she won't put me on hrt until my blood pressure has stabilised. I pleaded with her but she won't do it. I do get a flush out of the blue which is probably mp.

I had a blood test about 2 days ago and in fact have just talked to her ( she rang me ) and wants to refer me on to the Neurology Department in a large public hospital for a second opinion. As all my records are there from my 3 week stay she feels that it would be best to attend a hospital that has all my records in the one place. She feels that waiting until February for a Neurology review is way too long considering I have so many symptoms.

I phoned the Hypertensive Clinic there yesterday and they will send me an appointment time when a Dr has reviewed the urgency of my condition. I'd hazard a guess and say that 170/100 and 105 pulse might push me up in the cue! My bp is consisitently high and fluctuates wildly even with medication. They just can't seem to find the problem.

I find with the heat issue if I am in my room at home and it is really hot outside and the temp. goes up in the room I get a crawling sort of prickling feeling then get breathless hot and itchy and I have to get out of the room. I hate being in the Sun, again this makes me feel sick and breathless and sometimes I feel as though I may pass out if I don't get away from the heat source. In the kitchen with the oven on and opening the oven door (fan forced) sends me into an immediate overheat. I have to find a cooler spot meantime my face is fire engine red!

Hey Cocoa

I just posted to u on another thread, but wanted to tell u i understand u'r heat related issues. I too have some slight probs with heat. Usually when i first go out in the heat (i live in south mississippi where it's pretty hot year round...tho prob not as bad as u'r is!) i'll have a stinging feeling on my skin for a short time and then it's gone. After awhile of being outside and heating up i'll get dizzy and off balance so i go inside. This morn i was cooking breakfast and actually got a little hot standing over the bacon and got dizzy. Once even burned my forearm due to getting dizzy as leaning over to take a cake out of the oven...lost postitioning and somewhat fell forward and put my arm too far inside! BOUGHT LESSON!!! Have u ever noticed any COLD related issues?? I've started to see some and, again, don't see that much or any here so wondered how much that happens.

I went thru early mp a few years ago and i can relate to u'r mp symptoms. At first i wondered about that myself and sorta hoped that was what i was dealing with, but so far that's a no. I hope they can get u'r bp under control and will be able to take a really good look at u'r symptoms overall. Something has to be goin on with u and they are just gonna have to take the time to put all the pieces together and figure this out. Don't get discouraged tho if it takes awhile. Many here have been searching for some time...myself since Feb '06...and it gets VERY discouraging to have and feel these symptoms, yet get no real credence given them. Do as many here have told me...get u'r symptoms addressed whether or not they can dx u now. Get to feeling better and that'll help keep u'r focus on perservering rather than suffering. Take care friend.

Hi Rhonda,

Great to hear from you. You asked me about the cold, YES YES YES I get sometimes one freezing cold leg, hand, foot, arm and I never know which one it will be next. The first time this happened was while I was in hospital with this terrible rash. They all thought I was having a heart attack which thankfully I wasn't but after I had settled back down I noticed that my left leg and foot felt absolutely FREEZING! It is almost as bad as the heat thing. Doesn't this rotten condition keep you guessing? You never know what will happen next. Today I had to go shopping and put some paperwork into the welfare dept. and I was convinced I had remembered everything. It is hot here today so had to take a cold storage for some groceries. I got to the first stop and realised I had left my mobile phone at home. Yesterday I got a letter from the rent agent, I had forgotten to pay the rent. Thought I had rang them and apologised and direct debited into their account. When I got home she rang me I had short paid her $30.00. Oh dear, not one of my better days!!!
Next week back the GP for new referral so hope someone will see me soon. Hope you are going ok, we seem to have similar problems!

Better get going, got to pick up a friend from work.

Talk again soon,

Cocoa
