Hi all,
I haven't been here very often for the past month or so, I have been going here and there to my GP laboratories and Specialists.
Hope everyone is ok and coping with this dreadful condition. I read others posts and its almost as if you wrote them yourself. The symptoms change so much and you try to ignore them but when I read others posts the same things are happening to others.

They really have thrown me in the too hard basket! I saw my BP specialist last Thursday and after a very lengthy chat and checking my bp, pulse, heart etc, she announced that I needed to be admitted so they can do a whole bunch of tests, monitor my blood pressure for 24 hours or more and I didn't really want to know any of the other 20 or so labels I saw her sticking on laboratory tests for when I come in. I couldn't believe it! She had 2 A4 pages of labels
(I counted them up), 12 to a page so that is 24 PLUS she missed a couple and her assistant had to print up another page. Goodness me! I'm a bit worried by it all but just have to go along with everything. She is going to change all my medications around and doesn't agree with what my GP has been giving me so she wants to monitor me while she takes me off my current assortment and changes me over to a whole bunch of other tablets. We also talked about MS and she said she would make every effort to get the Neurologist to see me while I am in there. That would be great, then I won't have to wait until January. The only down side I guess could be that I may be in hospital over Christmas. It doesn't really matter anyway as I don't have any family so it would just be another day for me. I would probably have a nicer day in hospital than at home, and air conditioning!
My GP sent me for more blood tests about a week ago and my cholesterol is way too high so wanted me to see a specialist for that as well. I think I will just stick with BP Specialist as she said she will look into that also while I'm in there. I take medication for it but it does not seem to make any difference. I also have an abnormal liver function "everything all over the place" according to my GP.
I am getting some strange symptoms in very strange places. I have pet birds which really are my family, and they ride around on my shoulder keeping me company every day. Sometimes of course they drop a little present which doesn't bother me, I always have tissues at the ready. Lately though I have thought that I have been pooped on, look at the spot and nothing is there, nothing on the floor. It feels just like somebody putting something hot on my skin and in odd places like my back or my arm, it definitely isn't my birds! Sometimes it is like an itchy spot or that something is crawling up my arm or something brushing up against my skin which just lasts a couple of seconds. I've had very blurry vision on and off some double vision when tired and the hot and cold legs and feet syndrome alternating with burning soles of my feet are on and off. Still got numbness and the old pins and needles in both arms and legs now so it appears my condition is deteriorating somewhat at present. Memory is definitely a lot worse, I can't believe how easily I forget.
Gee sometimes this gets me down and I sit and have a good old cry! I ran out of one of my bp medications and forgot to get more from the Chemist yesterday. Boy did that send my body into meltdown. Palpitations, headache, short of breath, sweating, racing pulse. I was on the verge of calling the ambulance then remembered last time I did this I had the exact same symptoms. Feel much better today.
Will keep you posted if there is anything left of me when they let me out!

Take care everyone and stay as well as you can

Hey Cocoa!

So good to see u again!! I'm sorry to hear u'll be in the hosp and maybe for Christmas, but u know u seem to have a very good doc! Yes, i'd stay with that doc and let the tests be run. Do all they'll do and eliminate all u can. That's how u'll know what u do and don't have and maybe get to the bottom of this sooner. I know it's all overwhelming, but hang in there. Once u've done this u'll know more and feel better at least about those answers. It's good she's putting u in the hosp to observe u while taking u off the meds too. Sounds like she's a very careful doc!

Some very strange sensory things can happen with ms or other neurological probs. Make sure u'r letting u'r doc know about these things, especially the ones that stick around for awhile (24 hours or longer) and make note of them in u'r journal. It's so easy to forget things...especially with memory probs!! Yes, i'm very familiar with the memory issues. Take heart tho...they may come and go as mine do so maybe u'll get a reprieve from time to time. :) Please let us know how it all goes...and HAPPY THANKSGIVING and MERRY CHRISTMAS if i don't see u again before those days!!! Take care friend!

I'm sorry to hear about all the metabolic problems you're having (blood pressure, liver function, all that.) There are metabolic conditions which can mimic neurological ones -- share symptoms, if you will, so it's very good that you have a doctor who is going to essentially "start from scratch" -- try to eliminate all the meds you're on, and start from the beginning to get at the source of your ailments. I suspect a lot of the testing will start with drawing lots of blood to run all those tests that are now labels on your chart. They can tell a lot from blood, if they know what to look for, and the labels are telling them what kinds of tests they need to run on the blood.

I do hope you're not in there longer than the 24 hours or so. Take care.

Thanks Rhonda and Uppity,

I will try and stay in touch while I am in hospital but will try and login in here a little more often now that I am just waiting for admission and don't have to attend appointments or tests. The hospital that I am going into is a large Public Hospital called the Princess Alexandra Hospital which is in Brisbane Queensland Australia. I was in there in March for 3 weeks for that horrid rash. They have a patient internet cafe so I should be able to log on and catch up with everyone.

Uppity, no such luck on the 24 hours they tell me that I will be in at least for one week and possibly longer depending on what they find. That takes me up to Christmas Eve so I guess if they can discharge me then they will. As I have had also increasing GERD symptoms I think perhaps that they may get the Gastroenterology Specialist to see me while I am there. I feel that I am going in for a major overhaul, and a complete grease and oil change! I am really grateful that they are looking after me. We often hear news here that the Public Hospitals aren't very good and you are better off in a Private Hospital. I used to have private insurance but now I can't afford it.
The P.A is without a doubt the BEST hospital I have ever been in. That must sound like I've been in a few, and I have over my lifetime. I am really pleased that I made my GP refer me to the Hypertension Clinic. The Doctor, (even though she looks about 18) really knows her stuff. She LISTENED to everything I told her and did not rush me. I was with her for over an hour. When I'm under pressure I am even more forgetful, get flustered and annoyed with myself, and come away without saying what I meant to say.

Rhonda, thank you my friend for your Christmas and Thanksgiving wishes, I wish you and your loved ones my best wishes also. I hope to keep in touch as much as I can. You are such a kind and loving spirit and I always look forward to reading your replies. We seem to have very similar symptoms and we both still don't know what is really going on. Uppity, it is always a pleasure to hear from you so I send the same greetings, to you and yours!
It is a shame that we are in a different time zone as when I'm online you guys would be tucked up in bed!
Talk to you all again soon,

Cocoa

Take care, Cocoa...

a hospital is no place to spend a holiday, even if you are by yourself otherwise. I hope you get a "complete overhaul" and out of there, as quickly as possible.
